It’s Soul Time!
Es ist wieder Zeit für zwei Stunden feinen Soul. Es sind ganz unterschiedliche Soul Klangfarben im Programm, viele neue Veröffentlichungen und auch einige alte Klassiker sind dabei. Der erste musikalische Schwerpunkt ist das dritte Album der Holländischen Band The Tibbs. Die Band präsentiert auf dem Album „Keep It To Yourself“ eine solide Mischung aus Uplifting Soul mit 60ties Flair, New Orleans inspiriertem Funk und bewegenden Soul Baladen.
Das Label Big Crown hat im Dezember 2023 die dritte Folge seiner Label Compilation „Crown Jewels“ veröffentlicht, die wieder einen sehr guten Überblick über die Künstler bietet, die aktuell beim Label unter Vertrag sind. Dies ist vor allem für diejenigen, die das Label noch nicht kennen, eine gute Möglichkeit in die musikalische Welt von Big Crown Records einzutauchen. Joel Sarakula hat sich mit Phil Martin zusammen getan und die New Visionaries gegründet. Die beiden Musiker haben sowohl ein Faible für zeitgenössische Instrumentalbands wie Khruangbin, Calibro 35, Air oder El Michels Affair, aber auch Library Music und cinematische Sounds im Stil eines David Axelrod sind ein wesentlicher Einfluß für die beiden Musiker. Das Debüt-Album „Roadmaps“ nimmt den Hörer mit auf eine klangliche Entdeckungsreise, die ich sehr abwechslungsreich und ziemlich spannend finde!
Madeline Bell ist eine amerikanische Soul-Sängerin, die vor allem durch ihre Zusammenarbeit mit Alan Parker in der Soul-Szene durch Songs wie „That’s What Friends Are For“ legendär geworden ist. Sie hat auch einige Solo-Alben veröffentlicht und „Doin‘ Things“ aus dem Jahr 1968 ist Ende letzten Jahres wieder veröffentlicht worden. Ein guter Anlass dieses schöne Album hier vorzustellen.
Dann kommen wir zum Album der Woche, das bereits Mitte Dezember 2023 erschienen ist. Das Debüt-Album von AC Soul Symphony, einem Projekt von Dave Lee, der seit über 35 Jahren unter zig verschiedenen Aliassen Musik veröffentlicht hat, am bekanntesten dürfte sein Alias Joey Negro sein. Mit AC Soul Symphony ist ihm ein ganz großer Wurf gelungen, der cinematische Sounds und Philly-Soul im Stil von MFSB und dem Love Unlimited Orchestra in epischer Länge auf zwei Doppel-LPs (Part 1 & 2) oder Doppel-CD präsentiert. Absolut umwerfend gut!
Danach geht es mit zwei Songs von The Jammers weiter, aus ihrem gleichnamigen und auch einzigen Album, das 1982 auf Salsoul Records erschienen ist. Exzellenter Boogie Sound! Dazu passt dann auch die Musik von Home Boy And The C.O.L. sehr gut. Das Album ist ebenfalls in 1982 veröffentlicht worden und 2022 gab es eine Wiederveröffentlichung.

It’s soul time!
It’s time again for two hours of fine soul. The program includes very different soul sounds, many new releases and also some old classics. The first musical focus is the third album by Dutch band The Tibbs. On the album „Keep It To Yourself“, the band presents a solid mix of uplifting soul with 60s flair, New Orleans-inspired funk and moving soul ballads.
In December 2023, the Big Crown label released the third installment of its label compilation „Crown Jewels“, which once again offers a very good overview of the artists currently signed to the label. This is a great opportunity to immerse yourself in the musical world of Big Crown Records, especially for those who are not yet familiar with the label. Joel Sarakula has teamed up with Phil Martin and founded the New Visionaries. The two musicians have a soft spot for contemporary instrumental bands such as Khruangbin, Calibro 35, Air or El Michels Affair, but library music and cinematic sounds in the style of David Axelrod are also a major influence for the two musicians. The debut album „Roadmaps“ takes the listener on a sonic journey of discovery, which I find very varied and quite exciting!

Then we continue with two songs by The Jammers, from their eponymous and only album, which was released on Salsoul Records in 1982. Excellent boogie sound! The music by Home Boy And The C.O.L. goes very well with this. The album was also released in 1982 and there was a re-release in 2022.
