Das neue Album von Jimi Tenor hat mich spontan begeistert. Schon lange wirkt Jimi Tenor im Hintergrund bei vielen Produktionen von Timmion Records mit und nun ist es Zeit ein Album zusammen mit Cold Diamond & Mink aufzunehmen, der legendären Hausband des Labels. Die Musiker klären die im Album-Titel „Is There Love In Outter Space?“ aufgeworfene Frage in fünf ausgehnten Stücken. Jimi Tenor, der interstellare Reisende des Cosmic Soul hat die Songs mit zischenden und glitzernden Synthie-Geräuschen vollgepackt. Im Zusammenspiel mit Cold Diamond & Mink’s rohem Soul-Sound entsteht ein Klangspektrum das von Lofi-Space-Funk bis hin zu cineastischen Soundscapes reicht. Ein großartiges Album, die Platte der Woche!
Der DJ und Musiker GU hat 2005 zusammen mit seinem Bruder Our Label Records gegründet. Inzwischen sind 20 7″ Singles auf dem Label erschienen, einige der veröffentlichten Songs sind inzwischen zu Klassikern geworden. Nun ist bei Unique Records eine Compilation mit ausgewählten Stücken aus dem Our Label Katalog erschienen, inklusive einem bisher unveröffentlichten Stück, die somit erstmalig auch auf LP und CD erhältlich sind. Sehr schön!
Danach passt eigentlich der druckvolle Hammond-Organ Funk von Claudio Corona sehr gut. Er ist vor allem als Keyboarder von Crowd Company bekannt und nun hat mit seinem Solo-Album „Imagination Unlimited“ eine überzeugende Sammlung von 10 Songs herausgebracht, die in seinem Londoner Retrofonica Studio entstanden sind. Das Soundspektrum reicht von klassischem 70er Jahre Funk bis hin zu cinematischen Sounds.
Viele Fans der inzwischen aufgelösten Ephemerals haben mit Spannung das Solo-Debüt von Sänger Wolfgang Valbrun erwartet. Das Album „Flawed By Design“ kann die hohen Erwartungen erfüllen, wie man bei den beiden in dieser Sendung vorgestellten Songs sehr gut hören kann.
Das Debüt-Album von Wonder 45 könnte alten Ephemerals Fans ebenfalls ganz gut gefallen. Der Titelsong „Wonderland“ war schon auf der vor zwei Jahren beim Label Golden Rules erschienen Compilation „The Originals Vol.2″ drauf und hat da für Furore gesorgt. Nun ist es soweit und die Band präsentiert ihr Albumdebüt, das noch mit einer Reihe weiterer exzellenter Songs glänzen kann.
Nach einer Reihe spannender Singles u.a. von Emilia Sisco, The Rosettes und den Soul Seeders, die aktuell schon physisch oder vorerst auch nur digital veröffentlicht wurden, geht es weiter mit der der für Ende Juni angekündigten Wiederveröffentlichung des 2011 erschienenen selbstbetitelten Debüt-Albums von Magic In Threes. Die Band hat ja in letzter Zeit mit einigen 7“ Veröffentlichungen viel Erfolg gehabt und es ist eine gute Idee an das hervorragende Debüt der Band zu erinnern. Instrumentaler Deep-Soul mit Library Sound Anklängen vom Feinsten. Ein wunderbareres Album! Das Orginal-Album, das in dieser Sendung zu hören war, ist schon lange ausverkauft. Für die Neuauflage wurde das Album von Jukka Sarapää (Timmion Cutting) neu gemastert.
Zum Schluss kommt nochmals ein absolutes Highlight und zwar das neue Album „Searching“ von den Staples Jr. Singers. Die Gospel-Soul Gruppe hatte 1975 ihr erstes und bisher auch einziges Album veröffentlicht. „When Do We Get Payed“ war damals kommerziell nicht erfolgreich, wurde aber aufgrund seiner Qualität und Seltenheit über die Jahre ein Holy-Grail Album unter Gospel-Soul Sammlern und zu Höchstpreisen gehandelt. Das Label Luaka Bop hatte es 2022 wiederveröffentlicht und das Album kam zu einer späten Annerkennung. Die Staples Jr. Singers haben nun mit „Searching“ ein neues Album aufgenommen, das nahtlos an ihren Klassiker von 1975 anschließt.

This time we are focusing on news from the soul & funk context.
The new album by Jimi Tenor immediately got me excited. Jimi Tenor has been involved in many Timmion Records productions in the background for a long time and now it’s time to record an album together with Cold Diamond & Mink, the label’s legendary house band. The musicians clarify the question posed in the album title „Is There Love In Outter Space?“ in five extended tracks. Jimi Tenor, the interstellar traveler of cosmic soul, has packed the songs with hissing and glittering synth noises. In combination with Cold Diamond & Mink’s raw soul sound, a sound spectrum is created that ranges from lofi space funk to cinematic soundscapes. A great album, the record of the week!
The DJ and musician GU founded Our Label Records together with his brother in 2005. Since then, 20 7″ singles have been released on the label and some of the songs have become classics. Now Unique Records has released a compilation with selected tracks from the Our Label catalog, including a previously unreleased track, which are now available on LP and CD for the first time. Very nice!
After that, the powerful Hammond organ funk of Claudio Corona fits very well. He is best known as the keyboardist of Crowd Company and has now released his solo album „Imagination Unlimited“, a convincing collection of 10 songs that were created in his London Retrofonica Studio. The sound spectrum ranges from classic 70s funk to cinematic sounds.
Many fans of the now disbanded Ephemerals have been eagerly awaiting singer Wolfgang Valbrun’s solo debut. The album „Flawed By Design“ can fulfill the high expectations, as you can hear very well with the two songs presented in this show.
The debut album by Wonder 45 could also appeal to old Ephemerals fans. The title track „Wonderland“ was already on the compilation „The Originals Vol.2″ released two years ago by the Golden Rules label and caused quite a stir. Now the time has come for the band to present their album debut, which boasts a number of other excellent songs.
After a series of exciting singles by Emilia Sisco, The Rosettes and the Soul Seeders, among others, which have already been released physically or digitally for the time being, the re-release of Magic In Threes‘ 2011 self-titled debut album, announced for the end of June, continues. The band has had a lot of success recently with several 7“ releases and it’s a good idea to remember the band’s excellent debut. Instrumental deep soul with hints of library sound at its best. A wonderful album! The original album, which was featured in this show, has long been sold out. For the new edition, the album was remastered by Jukka Sarapää (Timmion Cutting).
Finally, there is another absolute highlight, the new album „Searching“ by the Staples Jr. Singers. The gospel-soul group released their first and so far only album in 1975. „When Do We Get Paid“ was not commercially successful at the time, but due to its quality and rarity, it became a holy-grail album among gospel-soul collectors over the years and was traded at top prices. The Luaka Bop label re-released it in 2022 and the album came to late recognition. The Staples Jr. Singers have now recorded a new album, „Searching“, which follows on seamlessly from their 1975 classic.
