A mixed bag of delights:
Freut euch auf eine bunte und abwechslungsreiche Mischung neuer Musik, die ein Genuss ist.
Zum Auftakt gibt es cinematische Sounds und das erste Highlight ist das neue Album von Sven Wunder. „Daybreak“ ist sein inzwischen fünftes Album und es ist der faszinierenden Stimmung des Tagesanbruchs gewidmet. Der Übergang von der Nacht zum Beginn eines neuen Tages, wenn das Sonnenlicht durch die Atmosphäre dringt und es allmählich hell wird. Sven Wunder nimmt den Zuhörer mit auf eine bildhafte Reise, die durch die frühen Morgenstunden und weit darüber hinaus führt. Die Songs des Albums sind aufwendig komponiert und in elegante Pop-Jazz Arrangements gekleidet, im für Sven Wunder inzwischen typischen Stil. Ein wunderbares Album!
Weiter geht es zum nächsten musikalischen Höhepunkt und damit ist zugleich ein stilistischer Wechsel verbunden. Die Schweizer Instrumentalband Löwenzahnhonig ist Meister der poetischen Verlangsamung. Ihre Musik ist eine Art alpenländischer Zen-Surf, der träumerisch und doch präzise ist. Wer, wie ich, vom ersten Album der Band fasziniert war, der wird auch von „Kirschblütenboogie“ wieder begeistert sein!
Mit dem transatlantischen Duo Call Sender begeben wir uns wieder mehr in Richtung Soul. Dieser klingt auf dem Album „Golden Langur“ durchaus auch mal psychedelisch und ist auch von Library Music inspiriert. Paul Elliot und Michael Reed haben ihre Zusammenarbeit vollkommen virtuell aufgebaut und dennoch gelingt es ihnen, einen warmen, organischen Vintage-Sound zu schaffen, den sie mit moderner Energie verbinden.
Eine wahre Freude ist der neuste Song der Angels Of Libra: „I Fell In Love“ ist ein wunderbarer Soul-Stomper, der die Vorfreude auf das kommende Album bestens anheizt.
Die Wartezeit auf das neue Album von Say She She ist vorüber, das Album wurde letzten Freitag veröffentlicht und „Cut & Rewind“ ist wirklich großartig geworden. Eine Reihe potentieller Hits ist unter den 12 neuen Songs des Albums zu finden, der Song „Disco Life“ sticht hier ganz besonders heraus. Ziemlich charmant finde ich die von Bands wie ESG und Liquid Liquid inspirierten Basslines und Grooves, die perfekt mit den Einflüssen aus klassischem Soul & Funk der 60er und 70er Jahre verschmolzen werden. Die drei Sängerinnen werden auch auf dem neuen Album wieder von den Musikern der Band Orgone begleitet und es wurde wieder in Sergio Rios Killion Sound Studio aufgenommen. Never change a winning team. Gut so und daher die Platte der Woche!
Nicole Wray wurde mit dem Duo Lady bekannt. Nachdem die beiden sich getrennt hatten machte sie als Lady Wray weiter. Die Zusammenarbeit mit dem Produzenten Leon Michels, der schon das Debüt von Lady produziert hatte, hat sie auch bei ihren Solo-Alben fortgesetzt. Dies hat sich auch beim neuen Album „Cover Girl“ bewährt. Es ist inzwischen das Dritte unter dem Alias Lady Wray. Songs wie das epische „You’re Gonna Win“, das eine wunderbare Fusion aus Gospel und Disco ist, sind charakteristisch für die Qualität dieses Albums. Exzellent!
Danach wird es wieder Zeit für einen kleinen Richtungswechsel, denn das neue Album „Tomorrow A Flower“ von Muito Kaballa bietet einen raffiniert modernisierten Sound, der elektronische Klänge mit Indie-Pop, Soul, Hip-Hop, Jazz, brasilianischen und westafrikanischen Rhythmen verbindet. Das Album hat eine ganze Reihe starker Songs zu bieten und ist insgesamt von durchgängig stimmiger Qualität.
Die Tübinger Musikszene bringt auch immer wieder neue musikalische Talente hervor. Eines davon ist Kuba, der mit seiner Lounge Band bereits einige erfolgreiche Konzerte in Tübingen (Café Haag) und anderswo gespielt hat. Nun steht am Samstag den 11. Oktober mit „Jazztronic Vibes“ im Schlachthaus Tübingen eine bemerkenswerte Session an, bei der sich Kubas Lounge Band und Emanuela De Luca mit Live-Sets und DJ-Sets abwechseln werden. Hier wird Jazz auf Clubkultur treffen und eine spannende, innovative und tanzbare Fusion eingehen. Der Event findet im Rahmen der „Jazz und Klassiktage Tübingen“ statt und ist für mich eines der Highlights aus dem Festival-Programm!
Zum Abschluss gibt es noch ein neues Projekt von Nicola Conte zu hören, der sich mit Nicoa Lahs zum Tema Due zusammengeschlossen hat. Zwei vielversprechende 12″-EP’s mit tanzbarem Club-Jazz haben die beiden bereits veröffentlicht und es soll demnächst auch noch ein Doppelalbum geben. Viel Vergnügen beim Anhören dieser Episode!

Look forward to a colorful and varied mix of new music that is a real treat.
We kick things off with cinematic sounds, and the first highlight is the new album by Sven Wunder. “Daybreak” is his fifth album and is dedicated to the fascinating atmosphere of dawn. The transition from night to the beginning of a new day, when sunlight penetrates the atmosphere and it gradually becomes light. Sven Wunder takes the listener on a pictorial journey through the early hours of the morning and far beyond. The songs on the album are elaborately composed and dressed in elegant pop-jazz arrangements, in the style that has become typical for Sven Wunder. A wonderful album!
We continue to the next musical highlight, which also marks a change in style. The Swiss instrumental band Löwenzahnhonig are masters of poetic deceleration. Their music is a kind of alpine Zen surf, dreamy yet precise. Anyone who, like me, was fascinated by the band’s first album will also be thrilled by “Kirschblütenboogie”!
With the transatlantic duo Call Sender, we’re heading back towards soul. On the album “Golden Langur,” this sometimes sounds psychedelic and is also inspired by library music. Paul Elliot and Michael Reed have built their collaboration entirely virtually, yet they manage to create a warm, organic vintage sound that they combine with modern energy.
The latest song from Angels Of Libra is a real treat: “I Fell In Love” is a wonderful soul stomper that perfectly fuels the anticipation for the upcoming album.
The wait for Say She She’s new album is over; it was released last Friday, and “Cut & Rewind” is truly magnificent. The album’s 12 new songs include a number of potential hits, with “Disco Life” standing out in particular. I find the basslines and grooves inspired by bands like ESG and Liquid Liquid quite charming, perfectly fused with influences from classic soul and funk of the 60s and 70s. The three singers are once again accompanied by the musicians of the band Orgone on the new album, which was recorded again at Sergio Rio’s Killion Sound Studio. Never change a winning team. That’s good, and that’s why it’s the record of the week!
Nicole Wray became known with the duo Lady. After the two split up, she continued as Lady Wray. She continued her collaboration with producer Leon Michels, who had already produced Lady’s debut, on her solo albums. This has also proven successful on the new album “Cover Girl.” It is now the third under the alias Lady Wray. Songs like the epic “You’re Gonna Win,” which is a wonderful fusion of gospel and disco, are characteristic of the quality of this album. Excellent!
After that, it’s time for a slight change of direction, because Muito Kaballa’s new album “Tomorrow A Flower” offers a sophisticated, modernized sound that combines electronic sounds with indie pop, soul, hip-hop, jazz, Brazilian, and West African rhythms. The album has a whole series of strong songs to offer and is of consistently high quality throughout.
The Tübingen music scene also continues to produce new musical talent. One of these is Kuba, who has already played several successful concerts in Tübingen (Café Haag) and elsewhere with his lounge band. Now, on Saturday, October 11, a remarkable session is coming up at Schlachthaus Tübingen with “Jazztronic Vibes,” where Kuba’s lounge band and Emanuela De Luca will alternate between live sets and DJ sets. Here, jazz will meet club culture and enter into an exciting, innovative, and danceable fusion. The event is part of the “Jazz and Classical Days Tübingen” and is one of the highlights of the festival program!
Finally, there is a new project by Nicola Conte to listen to, who has teamed up with Nicoa Lahs to form Tema Due. The two have already released two promising 12″ EPs with danceable club jazz, and a double album is also planned for release soon. Enjoy listening to this episode!
