Willkommen zu einer musikalischen Reise nach Brasilien!
In dieser Episode gibt es sowohl Musik von jungen aufstrebenden brasilianischen Künstlern, als auch von einigen inzwischen legendären Musikern. Außerdem sind auch Musiker dabei, die von der Stimmung und der Atmosphäre brasilianischer Musik inspiriert sind.
Der erste in einer Reihe junger Brasilianer, die gerade in der Musikwelt von sich Reden machen ist Nyron Higor, der Anfang des Jahres sein zweites Album veröffentlicht hat. Es ist schlicht „Nyron Higor“ betitelt und enthält zehn zeitlose Songs, die sowohl zutiefst persönlich als auch von einer universellen Schönheit sind. Wunderbar!
Ein weiterer Newcomer ist Phylipe Nunes Araujo, der gerade sein selbst betiteltes Debütalbum veröffentlicht hat. Seine Einflüsse reichen von den Beatles und Nick Drake, über Jazz und Bossa Nova bis hin zu den rhythmischen Sounds des brasilianischen Nordostens, die er ganz wesentlich für für seine Interpretation brasilianischer Popmusik (MPB) sieht. Seine virtuosen Kompositionen verbinden regionale Rhythmen und Folk mit raffinierten Harmonien. Diese Songs bestechen mit ihrer bemerkenswerten Schönheit. Großartig! Das Album haben Bruno Berle und Batata Boy produziert und bei den beiden vorgestellten Songs hat Nyron Higor das Schlagzeug gespielt.
Sessa hat Anfang November sein drittes Album „Pequena Vertigem De Amor“ veröffentlicht. Seinen charakteristischen auf Akustikgitarrenmustern basierenden Sound hat er auf dem neuen Album erweitert. Perfekt aufeinander abgestimmte Streicher- und Bläserarrangements sind eine willkommene Bereicherung seines emotional bewegenden Sounds. Er beschreibt sein neues Album als „etwas nächtlicher, offener, schräg-funkig“ und hebt dabei die Inspiration durch soulige Einflüsse aus Nord- und Südamerika hervor. Ich finde mit „Pequena Vertigem De Amor“ hat Sessa ein wunderschönes Album geschaffen, ich bin begeistert!
Vor rund 25 Jahren erschien das Debüt-Album von Da Lata, einem Projekt das vom Multi-Instrumentalisten und Produzenten Chris Franck zusammen mit dem DJ und Radiomoderator Patrick Forge gegründet wurde. Nun haben sie ihr fünftes Album „Edge Of Blue“ veröffentlicht. Es markiert auf eine Art eine Wiedergeburt des Tropicalia-Sounds in Nord-London und ist gleichzeitig eine sowohl vielfältige als auch harmonische Sammlung bemerkenswerter Songs die von Kampf, Überleben und letztendlich Hoffnung erzählen. Ein gelungenes Album und meiner Meinung das bisher beste, das Da Lata in ihrer langen Karriere gemacht haben.
Eine lange Karriere haben auch die Künstler vorzuweisen, die in der Reihe Jazz Is Dead präsentiert werden. Diese Reihe ist von Adrian Younge und Ali Shaheed Mohammed ins Leben gerufen worden, nicht zuletzt auch um zu beweisen, dass Jazz nach wie vor ziemlich lebendig ist. Die jüngsten Ausgaben in dieser Reihe hat vor allem brasilianische Künstler porträtiert und die neuste Folge 25 ist Carlos Dafe gewidmet. Er war in den 1970er Jahren eine Säule der brasianischen Black Music Bewegeung und hat Soul und Funk in die brasilianische Musik gebracht. In Zusammenarbeit mit Adrian Younge sind neun Songs entstanden die mit dem legendären brasilianischen Sänger Carlos Dafe eingespielt wurden. Eine wirklich sehr interessante Reihe und auch diese Folge ist wieder sehr gut geworden.
Zum Schluss gibt es noch die Wiederveröffentlichung eines brasilianischen Soul Klassikers zu hören. Das Album „Mais Que Um Momento“ von Emilio Santiago. Viel Vergnügen beim Anhören dieser Episode!

Welcome to a musical journey to Brazil!
This episode features music from young, up-and-coming Brazilian artists as well as some now legendary musicians. It also includes musicians who are inspired by the mood and atmosphere of Brazilian music.
The first in a series of young Brazilians who are currently making a name for themselves in the music world is Nyron Higor, who released his second album at the beginning of the year. It is simply titled “Nyron Higor” and contains ten timeless songs that are both deeply personal and universally beautiful. Wonderful!
Another newcomer is Phylipe Nunes Araujo, who has just released his self-titled debut album. His influences range from the Beatles and Nick Drake to jazz and bossa nova to the rhythmic sounds of northeastern Brazil, which he considers essential to his interpretation of Brazilian pop music (MPB). His virtuoso compositions combine regional rhythms and folk with sophisticated harmonies. These songs captivate with their remarkable beauty. Great! The album was produced by Bruno Berle and Batata Boy, and Nyron Higor played the drums on the two songs featured here.
Sessa released his third album, “Pequena Vertigem De Amor,” in early November. He has expanded his characteristic sound, based on acoustic guitar patterns, on the new album. Perfectly coordinated string and wind arrangements are a welcome addition to his emotionally moving sound. He describes his new album as “a little more nocturnal, open, quirky and funky,” highlighting the inspiration from soulful influences from North and South America. I think Sessa has created a beautiful album with “Pequena Vertigem De Amor,” I’m thrilled!
Da Lata’s debut album was released around 25 years ago, a project founded by multi-instrumentalist and producer Chris Franck together with DJ and radio presenter Patrick Forge. Now they have released their fifth album, “Edge Of Blue.” In a way, it marks a rebirth of the Tropicalia sound in North London and is at the same time a diverse and harmonious collection of remarkable songs that tell of struggle, survival, and ultimately hope. A successful album and, in my opinion, the best Da Lata has made in their long career.
The artists featured in the Jazz Is Dead series also have long careers to their credit. This series was created by Adrian Younge and Ali Shaheed Mohammed, not least to prove that jazz is still very much alive. The most recent editions in this series have mainly featured Brazilian artists, and the latest installment, number 25, is dedicated to Carlos Dafe. He was a pillar of the Brazilian black music movement in the 1970s and brought soul and funk to Brazilian music. In collaboration with Adrian Younge, nine songs were recorded with the legendary Brazilian singer Carlos Dafe. It’s a really interesting series, and this episode is once again very good.
