In dieser Episode erwartet Euch eine reichhaltige Bandbreite unterschiedlicher Grooves, die von entspanntem Jazz über cinematische Sounds bis hin zu Soul und Jazzdance mit House-Appeal reicht.
Das erste Album Vorstellung ist die zweite Folge der Jazz Brut Reihe vom Pariser Label Q-Sounds Recordings. Das Konzept dieser Reihe ist Musiker für einen Tag im Studio zusammen zu bringen ohne Vorgaben in welche Richtung es gehen soll. Der kollektive Ansatz zur Improvisation ist nur durch den Rhythmus strukturiert. Dabei ist ein großartiges Album entstanden, das Jazz-Funk Rhythmen und Hip-Hop Anklänge mit Filmmusik-Einflüssen kombiniert. Sehr schön!
Auf das neue Album von Opek war ich schon gespannt. Der Kölner Komponist und Drummer Opek streift auf seinem Album „Trafo“ verschiedene Genres, die von Spiritual Jazz bis hin zu Library Music und Filmmusik aus den 70er Jahren reicht. Das Album wurde in Opek’s Kölner Studio mit einer 5-köpfigen Band live eingespielt. Dies verleiht der Musik sowohl Spannung und Lebendigkeit, als auch Intimität und Wärme. Großartig!
Mit cinematischen Sounds geht es dann im Anschluss weiter. Das zweite Album des französischen Duos Bolbec ist am 8. Mai erschienen und auf „Foutu Félin“ setzen die beiden ihre musikalische Reise fort, die sich wie ein imaginärer Soundtrack entfaltet. Sinnliche und mitreisende Melodien, die wie großes Kino klingen!
Schon das 2023 erschiene Debüt „Reverie“, des norwegischen Muli-Instrumentalisten und Produzenten Mortimer Martens, hat bei mir einen bleibenden Eindruck hinterlassen. Umso größer war die Spannung mit der ich sein neues Album „Fading Forward“ erwartet habe. Er mischt Klänge des Soul der 60er und 70er Jahre mit Arrangements, die an Doo-Wop-Platten erinnern, übernimmt die Drum-Energie aus dem Hip-Hop und überzieht das Ganze mit Gesangsstilen, die dem Alternative der 90er und 2000er Jahre entstammen. Martens’ Texte, seine Emotionen und seine Darbietung, verleihen der Musik von Les Imprimes jene seltene Eigenschaft sofort zu fesseln, eine Faszination, die sich mit jedem weiteren Hören nur noch vertieft. Großartig, die Platte der Woche!
Nun wenden wir uns verstärkt dem Dancefloor zu, einige aktuelle Singles bereiten den Weg dahin. Das neue Album „What’s It Gonne Be?“ von Tom Funk kombiniert Einflüsse die von P-Funk über Neo-Soul bis hin zu Lonnie-Liston Smith reichen. Eine sehr interessante Mischung, die zudem mit einigen bemerkenswerten Gast-Sänger*Innen besticht.
Tema Due ist ein Projekt von Nicola Conte und Nico Lahs. Nach zwei EPs bei Schema Records haben sie nun das Debüt-Album „Universo Astratto“ vorgelegt. Das Album wurde mit Hilfe einiger namhafter Musiker eingespielt, die schon bei früheren Werken von Nicola Conte mitgewirkt hatten. Die Vision von Tema Due erfüllt sich in „Universo Astratto“: eine Welt aus traditionellen Grooves, kosmischem Jazz und elektronischer Musik. Konzipiert für die Clubs dieser Welt, als eine Art „aktives Erlebnis“.

In the Mood for Groove.
In this episode, you can expect a rich variety of different grooves, ranging from laid-back jazz and cinematic sounds to soul and jazz dance with a house vibe.
The first album featured is the second installment of the Jazz Brut series from the Paris-based label Q-Sounds Recordings. The concept behind this series is to bring musicians together in the studio for a day without any predefined direction. The collective approach to improvisation is structured solely by the rhythm. The result is a fantastic album that combines jazz-funk rhythms and hip-hop elements with film music influences. Very nice!
I was already looking forward to Opek’s new album. On his album “Trafo,” Cologne-based composer and drummer Opek explores various genres, ranging from spiritual jazz to library music and 1970s film scores. The album was recorded live in Opek’s Cologne studio with a five-piece band. This lends the music both tension and vitality, as well as intimacy and warmth. Great!
The journey continues with cinematic sounds. The second album by the French duo Bolbec was released on May 8, and on “Foutu Félin,” the two continue their musical journey, which unfolds like an imaginary soundtrack. Sensual and captivating melodies that sound like great cinema!

Tema Due is a project by Nicola Conte and Nico Lahs. Following two EPs on Schema Records, they have now released their debut album “Universo Astratto.” The album was recorded with the help of several renowned musicians who had previously collaborated on Nicola Conte’s earlier works.
