Willkommen in der Welt von Modern Soul, Disco und Boogie: Genießt die vielfältigen Facetten dieser äußerst tanzbaren Musik, sowohl aus der Vergangenheit als auch aus der Gegenwart! Wir starten mit einer kleinen Runde alter Modern Soul Klassiker, die zum Teil in letzter Zeit wiederveröffentlicht wurden.
Die erste Album-Vorstellung ist von The Hamilton Movement, einer Band aus Hamilton, Ohio. Die Band wird in Rare Groove Sammlerkreisen vor allem für den Song „She’s Gone“ hoch geschätzt. Der Song erschien 1976 beim in Indianapolis ansässigen Label „Look Out“ als B-Seite der Single „We’re Gonna Party“ und bekam zu der damaligen Zeit kaum Beachtung. Dies hat sich allerdings in den 50 Jahren danach grundlegend geändert und die rare Single ist inzwischen sehr begehrt und erzielt Höchstpreise. Das Label Now Again Records hat vor ein paar Monaten die erste offiziell lizenzierte Wiederveröffentlichung dieses Songs herausgebracht und die 350 Exemplare waren in kürzester Zeit ausverkauft. Ende Juli ist nun bei Now Again Records ein Album der Band erschienen, auf dem erstmalig das gesamte Werk der Band aus den Jahren 1975-1977 zusammenfasst ist. Der grandiose Song „She’s Gone“ gibt dem Album den Titel. Es zeigt die Vielseitigkeit dieser Band, denn sie können in einem Moment hart und funky sein und im nächsten einen großartigen, Soul-Song zum Besten geben!
Das Label Jai Alai ist ein Sub-Label von Soul 4 Real aus Bilbao. Während Soul 4 Real vor allem bislang auf Vinyl und 7″ unveröffentlichte Soul-Perlen aus den 1960er und 1970er Jahren herausbringt, konzentriert sich Jai Alai auf zeitgenössischen Soul aus dem 21. Jahrhundert, ergänzt durch vereinzelte, oft übersehene oder nur wenig bekannte Aufnahmen aus früheren Jahrzehnten. Nun hat das Label nach zahlreichen 7″-Singles seine zweite LP veröffentlicht. Die Compilation „Open Your Mind“ glänzt mit zwei bislang unveröffentlichten Aufnahmen von Aretha Franklin und Dionne Warwick, sowie einer ganzen Reihe weiterer hervorragender Songs. Eine rundum gelungene Compilation!
Als Tobias Kirmayer 2018 die Compilation-Reihe „Can You Feel It?“ bei Tramp Records gestartet hat, waren Modern Soul, Disco & Boogie eine erfreuliche Ergänzung der musikalischen Bandbreite des Labels. Inzwischen ist die 5. Folge erschienen, die ein weiteres Mal mit bisher übersehenen oder nur wenig bekannten Aufnahmen glänzt. Zum Teil sind auch bislang unveröffentlichte Aufnahmen dabei. Die Auswahl der Songs hat einen für Tramp Records typischen Blickwinkel und der richtet den Fokus auf Songs, die jede Menge frische Energie auf die Tanzfläche bringen! Auch die 5. Folge dieser Reihe überzeugt wieder auf ganzer Linie!
Die Sängerin Mia aus Miami ist mit ihrem Debüt-Album „In The Moonlight“ am Start. Nach zahlreichen Single-Veröffentlichungen und ausgedehnten Tourneen ist ihr Album von einer wachsenden Anhängerschaft sehnsüchtig erwartet worden. Das Album enthält acht Synthie-lastige, spacige, introspektive und tanzbare Tracks. Songs die für die Tanzfläche gemacht sind, aber genau so gut auch Zuhause im Sitzen oder Liegen funktionieren. Das gefällt mir sehr gut!
Das zweite Album „Amour Propre“ von Stelle & The Longos ist schon im November 2025 erschienen, daher ist also höchste zeit auch hier vorgestellt zu werden. Die multinationale Band aus Berlin gefällt mir vor allem mit dem französischen Flair ihrer Songs, das zusammen mit afro-karibischen Einflüssen und Vintage-Boogie-Beats eine stimmige Melange ergibt.

Welcome to the world of modern soul, disco, and boogie: Enjoy the many facets of this incredibly danceable music, from both the past and the present! We’ll start with a short roundup of old modern soul classics, some of which have been reissued recently.
The first album feature is by The Hamilton Movement, a band from Hamilton, Ohio. The band is highly regarded in rare groove collector circles, especially for the song “She’s Gone.” The song was released in 1976 on the Indianapolis-based label “Look Out” as the B-side of the single “We’re Gonna Party” and received little attention at the time. However, this has changed dramatically over the past 50 years, and the rare single is now highly sought after and fetches top prices. A few months ago, the label Now Again Records released the first officially licensed reissue of this song, and the 350 copies sold out in no time. At the end of July, Now Again Records released an album by the band that, for the first time, compiles their entire body of work from 1975–1977. The magnificent song “She’s Gone” gives the album its title. It showcases the band’s versatility—they can be hard-hitting and funky one moment and deliver a fantastic soul song the next!
The Jai Alai label is a sub-label of Soul 4 Real from Bilbao. While Soul 4 Real has primarily released previously unreleased soul gems from the 1960s and 1970s on vinyl and 7“ singles, Jai Alai focuses on contemporary 21st-century soul, supplemented by occasional, often overlooked or little-known recordings from earlier decades. Now, after releasing numerous 7” singles, the label has released its second LP. The compilation “Open Your Mind” features two previously unreleased recordings by Aretha Franklin and Dionne Warwick, as well as a whole host of other outstanding songs. An all-around successful compilation!
When Tobias Kirmayer launched the “Can You Feel It?” compilation series at Tramp Records in 2018, modern soul, disco, and boogie were a welcome addition to the label’s musical repertoire. The fifth installment has now been released, once again featuring previously overlooked or little-known recordings. Some of the tracks are previously unreleased. The song selection reflects Tramp Records’ signature approach, focusing on tracks that bring plenty of fresh energy to the dance floor! The fifth installment of this series is once again a complete success across the board!
Miami-based singer Mia is making her debut with her album “In The Moonlight.” After numerous single releases and extensive tours, her album has been eagerly awaited by a growing fan base. The album features eight synth-heavy, spacey, introspective, and danceable tracks. Songs that are made for the dance floor but work just as well at home while sitting or lying down. I really like that!
Stelle & The Longos’ second album, “Amour Propre,” was released back in November 2025, so it’s high time to feature them here as well. What I especially like about this multinational band from Berlin is the French flair of their songs, which, combined with Afro-Caribbean influences and vintage boogie beats, creates a harmonious blend.
