Ein musikalischer Trip durch die Welt des Soul.
Unser musikalischer Trip startet in der Karibik und führt uns bis nach Lateinamerika. Das erste Album-Feature ist die Wiederveröffentlichung des Albums „Expreso Ritmico“ des gebürtigen Kubaners Ricardo Eddy Martinez, der seit 1980 in den USA lebt und arbeitet. Das Album „Expreso Ritmico“ ist 1978 in Kuba veröffentlicht worden und ist über die Jahre bei Sammlern zu einem gesuchten geworden. Anfang dieses Jahres hat das Label Mr. Bongo es neu aufgelegt, was ich sehr erfreulich finde.
Danach geht es weiter nach Vietnam. Das zweite Album-Feature ist „Chốn Ta Về“, das dritte Album der Band Saigon Soul Revival. Die Band hat sich in den vergangenen Jahren international einen Namen gemacht: mit Tourneen durch Australien, Südostasien, China und Europa, einer Live-Session für KEXP sowie der Aufnahme ihrer Single „Ai Thật Lòng Yêu Ai“ in die Dauerausstellung der Philharmonie de Paris.
Das neue Album „Chốn Ta Về“ wurde komplett analog in den „The Box Studios“ in Ho-Chi-Minh-Stadt aufgenommen und verbindet traditionelle vietnamesische Instrumente (T’rung, Sáo Trúc, Đàn Tranh, Đàn Bầu, Đàn Nguyệt) mit Soul-, Rock- und Latin-Einflüssen. Damit hat die Band einen einzigartigen und hochinteressanten Sound geschaffen, der auch auf Album-Länge überzeugt.
Nach einer weiteren Mix-Set Runde kommen wir zum Album der Woche: Es ist das Album „Organ-ized“ von Cold Diamond & Mink with Mr. Sophisticated Fingers. Es ist die Instrumental-Version des Debüt-Albums „Introducing“ von Emilia Sisco. Das Album „Organ-ized“ ist jedoch mehr als eine simple Instrumental-Version bei der einfach der Gesang herausgenommen wurde. Cold Diamond & Mink haben Mr. Sophisticated Fingers hinzugezogen, der mit seiner Hammond-Orgel eine gänzlich neue Note in die Musik einbringt. So wird aus dem Instrumental-Album eine spannende, instrumentale Neuinterpretation der Songs von Emilia Sisco, wobei sich dies nicht nur auf die Musik beschränkt, auch die Song-Titel wurden variiert. Großartig!

A musical journey through the world of soul.
Our musical journey begins in the Caribbean and takes us all the way to Latin America. The first album featured is the reissue of “Expreso Ritmico” by Cuban-born Ricardo Eddy Martinez, who has lived and worked in the U.S. since 1980. The album “Expreso Ritmico” was originally released in Cuba in 1978 and has become a sought-after item among collectors over the years. Earlier this year, the label Mr. Bongo reissued it, which I find very exciting.
Next, we head to Vietnam. The second album feature is “Chốn Ta Về,” the third album by the band Saigon Soul Revival. The band has made a name for itself internationally in recent years: with tours through Australia, Southeast Asia, China, and Europe; a live session for KEXP; and the inclusion of their single “Ai Thật Lòng Yêu Ai” in the permanent exhibition at the Philharmonie de Paris.
The new album “Chốn Ta Về” was recorded entirely analog at “The Box Studios” in Ho Chi Minh City and blends traditional Vietnamese instruments (t’rung, sáo trúc, đàn tranh, đàn bầu, đàn nguyệt) with soul, rock, and Latin influences. In doing so, the band has created a unique and highly intriguing sound that holds up well over the course of an entire album.
After another round of mix sets, we come to the Album of the Week: it’s the album “Organ-ized” by Cold Diamond & Mink featuring Mr. Sophisticated Fingers. It’s the instrumental version of Emilia Sisco’s debut album “Introducing.” However, the album “Organ-ized” is more than just a simple instrumental version where the vocals have been removed. Cold Diamond & Mink brought in Mr. Sophisticated Fingers, who adds a whole new dimension to the music with his Hammond organ. This transforms the instrumental album into an exciting, instrumental reinterpretation of Emilia Sisco’s songs—and it’s not limited to the music; even the song titles have been reworked. Fantastic!
