Zum Auftakt gibt es ein kleines Modern Soul / Boogie Mixset. Dies ist dann auch eine passende Überleitung zur ersten Neu-Vorstellung, der zweiten Folge der Compilation-Reihe „With Love“ die vom Londoner DJ Miche zusammengestellt wurde. Die Songs die er ausgewählt hat sind dieses Mal etwas stärker dancefloor-orientiert als auf der ersten Folge und es sind auch einige schöne Modern Soul Stücke dabei. Ich finde Miche ist auch bei der zweiten Folge eine brilliante und sehr ausgewogene Compilation gelungen, die einige bemerkenswerte Raritäten enthält. Fazit: With Love Volume 2 ist wieder sehr zu empfehlen!
Die Angels Of Libra sind mit ihrem dritten Album am Start, wo sie sich mit der Sängerin Maiiah zusammen getan haben. Für Maiiah ist dies zugleich ihr Albumdebüt und dafür hat sie mit den Angels Of Libra die richtigen Partner gefunden. Die Band liefert mit ihren kraftvollen Arrangements den perfekten Soundtrack für Maiiahs großartige Soul-Stimme. Sehr abwechslungsreicher, mal kraftvoll treibender, aber auch gefühlvoller Soul-Sound mit einer starken Dosis Rhythm’n’Blues. Ich bin ziemlich begeistert von diesem Album und finde es ist wohl das beste was in Deutschland in den letzten Jahren in diesem Genre veröffentlicht wurde. Die Platte der Woche!
The Allergies liefern auf ihrem neuen Album „Tear The Place Up“ eine große musikalische Bandbreite, die von Soul, Funk und HipHop bis zu Reggae-inspirierten Tracks reicht. Es bietet somit die passenden Tracks zur Überleitung zur nächsten musikalischen Station, dem Reggae.
Victor Axelrod hat für Daptone Records in den letzten 20 Jahren eine beachtliche Anzahl von Reggae-Versionen geschaffen, die auf Orginal-Songs von Daptone Künstlern wie Sharon Jones, Charles Bradley, Bob & Gene, The Frightnrs und anderen basieren. Zudem ist er auch als Studiomusiker und Toningenieur für Daptone Records tätig. Nun gibt es eine Compilation mit all den wunderbaren Reggae-Versionen, die er für Daptone Records geschaffen hat. Ein großartiges Album!
Ziemlich überraschend ist, dass es auch in Libyen seit den 1970er Jahren eine Reggae-Szene gibt. Das berliner Label Habibi Funk, das seit einigen Jahren den nahen und mittleren Osten musikalisch erforscht, hat nun eine Compilation mit Songs von Ibrahim Hesnawi „The Father Of Libyan Reggae“ herausgebracht. Ein äußerst interessantes und hörenswertes Album!
Zum Schluss richten wir den Fokus auf zwei alte Helden der deutschen Downbeat / NuJazz Szene: Ralf Droesemeyer & Mark Wetzler, besser bekannt als „Mo‘ Horizons“. Mit diesem Projekt sind seit Ende der 1990er Jahre aktiv und haben gerade ihr siebtes Album „Mango“ veröffentlicht. Globale Grooves, deren Inspirationen von Afrika, über den Balkan bis nach Südamerika reichen. Ein solides Album, mit einigen Highlights. Viel Spaß beim Anhören!

To start with, there is a small Modern Soul / Boogie mix set. This is then also a fitting transition to the first new presentation, the second episode of the compilation series „With Love“ which was compiled by London DJ Miche. The songs he has chosen this time are a bit more dancefloor oriented than on the first installment and there are also some nice Modern Soul tracks included. I think Miche has managed to create a brilliant and very balanced compilation on the second volume as well, which contains some remarkable rarities. Conclusion: With Love Volume 2 is again highly recommended!
The Angels Of Libra are out with their third album, where they have teamed up with singer Maiiah. For Maiiah this is also her album debut and for this she has found the right partners with the Angels Of Libra. The band delivers with their powerful arrangements the perfect soundtrack for Maiiah’s great soul voice. Very varied, sometimes powerfully driving, but also soulful soul sound with a strong dose of rhythm’n’blues. I’m pretty excited about this album and think it’s probably the best thing released in Germany in this genre in recent years. Record of the week!
The Allergies deliver on their new album „Tear The Place Up“ a wide musical range, from soul, funk and hip hop to reggae-inspired tracks. It thus provides the appropriate tracks to transition to the next musical stop, reggae.

Quite surprisingly, there has also been a reggae scene in Libya since the 1970s. The Berlin-based label Habibi Funk, which has been musically exploring the Near and Middle East for several years, has now released a compilation of songs by Ibrahim Hesnawi called „The Father Of Libyan Reggae“. An extremely interesting album and worth listening to!
Finally we focus on two old heroes of the German Downbeat / NuJazz scene: Ralf Droesemeyer & Mark Wetzler, better known as „Mo‘ Horizons“. They have been active with this project since the late 1990s and have just released their seventh album „Mango“. Global grooves whose inspirations range from Africa, to the Balkans, to South America.
