In a jazzy mood …
Wer Lust auf Musik mit einem „jazzy vibe“ hat, der ist hier genau richtig. Von jazzy Library Music über Modern Soul mit einem Jazz-Appeal bis hin zu Spiritual Jazz und brasilianischem Bossa Nova reicht die Bandbreite die in diesen zwei Stunden aufgefächert wird. Das Debütalbum von Max Beesley’s High Vibes ist einer der ersten Höhepunkte. Nach zwei 12″ Singles in den frühen 90er Jahren, auf dem Höhepunkt der Acid-Jazz Ära, musste man lange auf das erste Album warten. Dies hat sich gelohnt, denn Max Bessley hat für „Zeus“ eine exzellente Band zusammengestellt, die mit ihm ein spannendes und abwechslungsreiches Album eingespielt hat.
Der Trompeter Matthew Halsall ist mit seinen Alben ein regelmäßiger Gast in dieser Sendung. Ich finde seinen meditativen Spiritual Jazz unheimlich schön. Auch auf seinem neuen Album „An Ever Changing View“ ist er wieder in Höchstform. In eine ähnliche Richtung geht der musikalische Ansatz des Flötisten und Saxophonisten Chip Wickham, der seit einiger Zeit auch bei Matthew Halsall’s Label Gondwana Records unter Vertrag ist. Seine neue EP „Love & Life“ ist wunderschön entspannter Jazz. Herrlich.
Neue Alben des schwedischen Produzenten und Musikers Sven Wunder werden immer mit großer Spannung erwartet. Nun ist sein viertes Album „Late Again“ erschienen und der Albumtitel definiert wie immer das musikalische Thema. Es geht um die Stimmung des endenden Tages und der Nacht. Welche Musik eignet sich dazu am besten diese Stimmungen zu beschreiben? Sanfte Kompositionen für Klavier mit orchestralen Jazz-Arrangements für Flöte, Blechbläser und Streicher erwarten euch auf diesem Album und sie sind einfach wunderschön! Das Album der Woche. Da passt es auch ganz gut mit Lounge-Jazz à la Combustible Edison weiter zu machen. Vor ein paar Monaten wurde das Album „Forbidden Isle Of Demos“ veröffentlicht und wie der Titel schon andeutet, handelt es sich um Demoaufnahmen, die vor ihrem legendären Debütalbum „I, Swinger“ aus dem Jahre 1994, entstanden sind. Finde ich ziemlich interessant und die Band mag ich eh schon seit langem. Da sind natürlich auch Songs dabei, die auf dem Debütalbum drauf waren, aber auch einige bislang unveröffentlichte Perlen.
Der Latin-Perkussionist Snowboy hat das Debütalbum der Sängerin Baiana produziert. Die brasilianischen Wurzeln, der in Liverpool geborenen Sängerin finden sich auch in ihrer Musik wieder. Die Einflüsse reichen von Bossa Nova über Samba bis hin zu brasilianischem Jazz. Ein gelungenes Debüt! Zum Abschluss gibt es noch das Album „Quem E Quem“, ein Klassiker des legendären Joao Donato, der am 17.Juli 2023 im Alter von 88 Jahren gestorben ist.

In a jazzy mood …
If you fancy music with a jazzy vibe, you’ve come to the right place. From jazzy library music to modern soul with a jazz appeal through to spiritual jazz and Brazilian bossa nova, the bandwidth ranges over these two hours. The debut album by Max Beesley’s High Vibes is one of the first highlights. After two 12″ singles in the early 90s, at the height of the acid jazz era, there was a long wait for the first album. It was worth it, because Max Bessley has put together an excellent band for „Zeus“, which has recorded an exciting and varied album with him.
Trumpeter Matthew Halsall is a regular guest on this program with his albums. I find his meditative spiritual jazz incredibly beautiful. On his new album „An Ever Changing View“, he is once again in top form. The musical approach of flautist and saxophonist Chip Wickham, who has also been signed to Matthew Halsall’s label Gondwana Records for some time now, goes in a similar direction. His new EP „Love & Life“ is beautifully relaxed jazz. Wonderful.

The album „Forbidden Isle Of Demos“ was released a few months ago and, as the title suggests, these are demo recordings that were made before their legendary debut album „I, Swinger“ from 1994. I think it’s pretty interesting and I’ve liked the band for a long time anyway. Of course, there are also songs that were on the debut album, but also some previously unreleased gems.
Latin percussionist Snowboy produced singer Baiana’s debut album. The Liverpool-born singer’s Brazilian roots are also reflected in her music. The influences range from bossa nova to samba and Brazilian jazz. A successful debut! Finally, there is the album „Quem E Quem“, a classic by the legendary Joao Donato, who died on July 17, 2023 at the age of 88.
