Music for no drawers …
Musik die in keine Schubladen passt. Mit von der Partie sind Vanishing Twin mit ihrem neuen Album „Afternoon X“. Die Band schätze ich für ihre Leftfield-Grooves, die sich im Spannungsfeld zwischen Elektronik, Psychedelik, Soul, Jazz und Postrock bewegen. Afternoon X ist wieder ein gelungenes und sehr facettenreiches Werk. Sehr schön!
Sababa 5 aus Tel Aviv sind mit ihrem zweiten Album „Aspan“ am Start. Es ist eine hochinteressante Mischung, die musikalische Einflüsse aus dem nahen Osten mit Postrock und Funk-Elementen verbindet. Das passt dann auch perfekt zu der Compilation „Middle Eastern Grooves“, die neben vielen anderen Bands auch Sababa 5 präsentiert. Die musikalische Bandbreite der Compilation ist sehr groß und auch hier sind die Sounds des nahen Ostens das Element welches die Grooves so besonders spannend macht!
Danach kommt die Budos Band mit ihrer neusten Mini-LP „Frontier’s Edge“, die nach sechs Alben bei Daptone Records nun auf dem neuen Label Diamond West Records erscheint. Ansonsten hat sich nichts geändert, der Sound ist nach wie vor die spannendste Fusion von Funk & Soul Sounds mit fetten Rockgitarren die ich kenne.
Laut und verzerrt sind auch die Klänge welche die Natural Yogourt Band auf ihrem aktuellen Album „Dance The Devil Away“ produziert. Kreischende Orgeln, wirbelnde Flöten und laute Drum-Breaks, einfach wunderbar verrückte Sounds! Auch bei JJ Whitefield rockt die Gitarre noch, aber es beruhigt sich insgesamt doch ein wenig. Nachdem JJ Whitefield erst kürzlich für Madlib’s Label ein Library Music Album aufgenommen hat, legt er nun mit „Puzzled“ ein weiteres vor, das beim Pariser Label Broc Recordz erchienen ist. Ein facettenreiches Album mit Sounds, die von rohem Funk bis Krautrock reichen.
Entspanntere Klänge hören wir dann von Misha Panfilov, der auf seinem neuen Album „In Focus“ sich ebenfalls der sogenannten Library Musik widmet. Seine Stücke sind sehr jazzy angehaucht, grooven aber locker und entspannt. Definitiv ein ausgesprochen schönes Album.
Da wir schon beim Thema Library Music sind: Darunter versteht man Musik, die für Film und Fernsehproduktionen produziert wurde und von speziellen Library Music Labels wie KPM oder De Wolfe veröffentlicht wurde. Die Platten wurden jedoch ausschließlich an Film- und Fernseh-Produktionsgesellschaften verkauft. Ein Verkauf auf dem öffentlichen Markt war nicht vorgesehen. Einige dieser Aufnahmen haben inzwischen einen legendären Ruf. Zum Schluss gibt es dann noch einen kleinen Mix mit ein paar dieser Library Music Klassiker.

Music for no drawers …
Music that doesn’t fit into any box. Vanishing Twin will be there with their new album „Afternoon X“. I appreciate the band for their leftfield grooves, which move between electronic, psychedelic, soul, jazz and post-rock. Afternoon X is another successful and very multi-faceted work. Very nice!
Sababa 5 from Tel Aviv are at the start with their second album „Aspan“. It is a highly interesting mixture that combines musical influences from the Middle East with post-rock and funk elements. This fits in perfectly with the compilation „Middle Eastern Grooves“, which presents Sababa 5 alongside many other bands. The musical range of the compilation is very wide and here too the sounds of the Middle East are the element that makes the grooves so particularly exciting!
Then comes the Budos Band with their latest mini-LP „Frontier’s Edge“, which after six albums on Daptone Records is now being released on the new label Diamond West Records. Apart from that, nothing has changed, the sound is still the most exciting fusion of funk & soul sounds with fat rock guitars that I know.
The sounds produced by the Natural Yogourt Band on their latest album „Dance The Devil Away“ are also loud and distorted. Screeching organs, swirling flutes and loud drum breaks, simply wonderfully crazy sounds! JJ Whitefield’s guitar still rocks, but it calms down a bit overall. After recently recording a Library Music album for Madlib’s label, JJ Whitefield has now released another one, „Puzzled“, on the Parisian label Broc Recordz. A multi-faceted album with sounds ranging from raw funk to krautrock.
We then hear more relaxed sounds from Misha Panfilov, whose new album „In Focus“ is also dedicated to so-called library music. His pieces have a very jazzy feel, but groove in a relaxed and laid-back manner. Definitely a very nice album.
While we’re on the subject of library music: This refers to music produced for film and television productions and released by special library music labels such as KPM or De Wolfe. However, the records were only sold to film and television production companies. They were not intended for sale on the public market. Some of these recordings now have a legendary reputation. Finally, here is a little mix of some of these library music classics.
