Different Colors Of Jazz!
In dieser Sendung dreht sich alles Jazz. In der ersten Stunde sind vor allem neue Veröffentlichungen im Fokus und in der zweiten Stunde gibt es es dann ein Special mit Jazz-Klassikern, die vor allem eines gemeinsam haben: Sie machen Lust zum Tanzen!
Meshell Ndegeocello macht den Auftakt mit „ASR“, einem Song aus ihrem grandiosen Album „The Omnichord Real Book“ aus dem vergangenen Jahr. Danach gibt es etwas brandneues von der Band Apifera, die mit „Theodore Marmelade“ ein neues Album ankündigen, das in 2024 erscheinen wird. Schon knapp ein Jahr alt, aber nicht minder interessant ist „Magic“ von Die Therapie & Der Nussigmilde aus ihrem Album „Reconnected“. Dann kommen wir zum ersten Highlight bei den Neuvorstellungen. Ganz frisch erschienen ist „Alkemi“, das neue Album von Dayme Arocena, die bislang vor allem mit afro-kubanischem Jazz in Erscheinung getreten ist. Sie hat ihre Musik mit einem wohldosierten Schuss Pop versehen, was ihr sehr gut bekommt. Das Album ist eine gelungene Mischung unterschiedlicher musikalischer Stile, die den Ohren schmeichelt. Sehr schön!
Timo Lassy und Jukka Eskola sind beide durch das legendäre Five Corners Quintet bekannt geworden. Inzwischen sind beide mit Soloprojekten sehr erfolgreich. Nun haben sich beide für ein neues Projekt zusammengetan, das sie nach New Orleans geführt hat. Dort haben sie die lokale Musikszene mit ihren mannigfaltigen Inspirationen studiert und zusammen mit Musikern aus New Orleans das Album „Nordic Stew“ aufgenommen. Dies fusioniert finnischen Jazz mit dem Jazz-Vibe von New Orleans und ich finde das Ergebnis klingt ziemlich spannend. Ein großartiges Album!
Seit einigen Jahren bin ich ein großer Fan von Shalosh, die mit ihrem neuen Album „Tales of Utopia“ wieder auf ganzer Linie überzeugen. Die Musik entführt uns an einen imaginären Ort und kreiert mit jedem Stück neue Momente der Schönheit. Etwas Eskapismus ist manchmal notwendig und hilfreich um wieder Kraft für die Herausforderungen der realen Welt zu tanken. Mit den schönen Songs, die Shalosh geschaffen haben, gelingt dies vortrefflich!
Nach einer Runde entspannter Jazz Grooves, die mit einem wunderbaren Reissue-Album der japanischen Jazz-Sängerin Meiko Kaji abschließt, wird der Groove in der zweiten Stunde tanzbarer. Das legendäre Album „Simba“ von O’Donel Levy wurde vor kurzem bei Mr. Bongo Records wieder veröffentlicht. Der Song „Bad, Bad Simba“ ist ein echter Dancefloor Jazz Klassiker. In diesem Stil geht es dann weiter und wir hören legendäre Stücke von Lee Morgan, Herbie Hancock, Freddie Hubbard und anderen. Sie alle haben eines gemeinsam, es ist Jazz zu dem man bestens tanzen kann. Den Jazz wieder als Tanzmusik zu etablieren, das haben sich auch die Veranstalter „Jazz im Prinz Karl“ und „Jazzclub Tübingen“ zum Ziel gesetzt, als sie die Veranstaltungsreihe „We’ll Jazz You“ konzipiert haben. Es ist eine hybride Veranstaltung aus DJ-Set und Live-Band. Für das DJ-Set ist Emanuela De Luca verantwortlich, sie wird vor, zwischen und nach den Live-Sets der Band die passende Musik auflegen: Jazz, Soul & Funk und artverwandtes. Der erste Abend mit diesem Konzept im Januar war ein voller Erfolg. Nun steht am 15. März die zweite Runde im Schlachthaus Tübingen an. Als Live-band ist dieses mal Olaf Schönborns Groove Machine am Start. Ich freue mich schon auf We’ll Jazz You. Viel Spaß beim Anhören!

Different Colors Of Jazz!
This show is all about jazz. In the first hour, the focus is on new releases and in the second hour there is a special with jazz classics that have one thing in common: They make you want to dance!
Meshell Ndegeocello kicks things off with „ASR“, a song from her fantastic album „The Omnichord Real Book“ from last year. Then there’s something brand new from the band Apifera, who announce their new album „Theodore Marmelade“, which will be released in 2024. „Magic“ by Die Therapie & Der Nussigmilde from their album „Reconnected“ is almost a year old, but no less interesting. Then we come to the first highlight of the new releases. „Alkemi“, the new album by Dayme Arocena, who has so far mainly made a name for herself with Afro-Cuban jazz, has just been released. She has added a well-dosed dash of pop to her music, which suits her very well. The album is a successful mixture of different musical styles that is pleasing to the ears. Very nice!
Timo Lassy and Jukka Eskola both became known through the legendary Five Corners Quintet. In the meantime, both have been very successful with solo projects. Now they have joined forces for a new project that has taken them to New Orleans. There they studied the local music scene with its diverse inspirations and recorded the album „Nordic Stew“ together with musicians from New Orleans. This fuses Finnish jazz with the jazz vibe of New Orleans and I think the result sounds pretty exciting. A great album!
I’ve been a big fan of Shalosh for a few years now and their new album „Tales of Utopia“ is once again convincing across the board. The music transports us to an imaginary place and creates new moments of beauty with every track. A little escapism is sometimes necessary and helpful to recharge our batteries for the challenges of the real world. With the beautiful songs that Shalosh have created, this works brilliantly!
After a round of relaxed jazz grooves, which concludes with a wonderful reissue album by Japanese jazz singer Meiko Kaji, the groove becomes more danceable in the second hour. The legendary album „Simba“ by O’Donel Levy was recently re-released by Mr. Bongo Records. The song „Bad, Bad Simba“ is a real dancefloor jazz classic. It continues in this style and we hear legendary pieces by Lee Morgan, Herbie Hancock, Freddie Hubbard and others. They all have one thing in common: it’s jazz you can dance to. The organizers „Jazz im Prinz Karl“ and „Jazzclub Tübingen“ also set themselves the goal of re-establishing jazz as dance music when they conceived the „We’ll Jazz You“ series of events. It is a hybrid event consisting of a DJ set and a live band. Emanuela De Luca is responsible for the DJ set and will play the appropriate music before, between and after the band’s live sets: Jazz, Soul & Funk and related music. The first evening with this concept in January was a complete success. Now the second round is coming up on March 15 at Schlachthaus Tübingen.
