Das musikalische Kaleidoskop dreht sich wieder und es gibt fantastische Musik in unterschiedlichen Klangfarben zu hören. Zum Auftakt gibt es eine Runde Reggae-Sounds mit Soul. Erstes Album Feature ist „Just A Little Talk“ von Soul Sugar, einem Band-Projekt von Guillaume Metenier. Seine Songs sind eine erfrischende Fusion von Reggae und Soul. Wirklich sehr schön!
Danach geht es direkt weiter mit dem Highlight der Woche. Dies ist das neue, schlicht „BRSB“ betitelte Album der Bacao Rhythm & Steel Band. Dahinter stecken die Mighty Mocambos aus Hamburg. Was einst als Sideproject gedacht war, ist nach der Debüt-Single „P.I.M.P.“ richtiggehend explodiert. Ihre Version von diesem Song ist inzwischen legendär und war auch kürzlich unüberhörbar mit einem Endlosloop in einer Schlüsselszene des Films „Anatomie eines Falls“ präsent. Das neue Album ist nun bereits das vierte der Band und sie sind wieder in absoluter Höchstform. Es war und ist immer wieder spannend herauszufinden welche Songs die Band mit ihren unkonventionellen Versionen covert und genauso spannend sind auch die Eigenkompositionen die sie auf das Album gepackt haben. Die Band nimmt die Hörer*Innen mit auf eine Reise, die eine Vielzahl unterschiedlicher Stimmungen und Tempi umfasst, welche zudem auch wunderbar harmonieren. Großartig!
Die Musikszene von Tel Aviv hat zur Zeit sehr viele interessante Bands zu bieten. Insbesondere im Umfeld der Band Sababa 5, die vor kurzem auf Deutschland auf Tour waren, tut sich sehr viel. Zwei Musiker von Sababa 5 sind an bei der Band VuVuVu beteiligt, die im September 2023 ihr selbstbetiteltes Debütalbum veröffentlicht haben. Es ist meines Erachtens eines der interessantesten Alben die ich aus diesem Umfeld bisher gehört habe. Mitreisende Instrumentals mit psychedelischen Gypsy-Breaks. Einfach fabelhaft!
Danach gibt es einen dezenten musikalischen Richtungswechsel und wir hören einige aktuelle Library Music Veröffentlichungen. Ganz großartig finde ich die Library Music Serie die das Label Madlib Invazion letztes Jahr gestartet hat. Jeden ersten Freitag im Monat erscheint ein Jahr lang ein Album mit neuen Library Music Perlen. Die sechste Folge wurde von Gabriel Rowland produziert und er hat auch alle Instrumente auf dem Album selbst gespielt. Gariel Rowland ist vor allem durch die Chicano-Soul Combo Los Yesterdays bekannt, die hier auch schon öfters zu hören waren. Gabriel Rowlands Album „Gente Soul“ ist eines der schönsten und besten geworden, die bisher in dieser hochinteressanten Serie erschienen sind.
Im Süden Frankreichs ist die Band Saint Tropez Orchestra ansässig und sie wird von dem britischen Musiker Lee Skelly angeführt. Unter seiner Regie haben sie das superbe Album „Themes Et Atmospheres“ aufgenommen, das ursprünglich von einer britischen Library Music Firma beauftragt wurde. Die hat es letztendlich nicht selbst veröffentlicht und es an das kleine französische Label Dime lizensiert. Die im November 2023 erschienene Auflage war in Kürze ausverkauft und nun hat das US-Label Funk Night Records eine Neuauflage herausgebracht. Toller Library Music Sound der von den legendären Aufnahmen der Jahre 1968 bis 1975 inspiriert ist. Vergleiche mit Bands wie den legendären Mohawks drängen sich einem sofort auf. Ein großartiges Album, das Library Music Fans begeistern wird.
Das französische Library Music Label Tele Music ist ebenfalls legendär. Das britische Label Be With Records hat nun eine Reihe rarer Tele Music Alben wiederveröffentlicht. Mit dabei ist auch das sehr schöne Album „Rhythms“ von Tonio Rubio. Der Bassist, Produzent und Komponist war ein in Frankreich sehr gefragter Studiomusiker, der bei vielen Aufnahmen bekannter französischer Künstler wie Serge Gainsbourg, Francoise Hardy und anderen mitgewirkt hat.
Nach dieser ausgedehnten Reise durch die musikalische Welt der Library Music ist wieder Zeit für einen Richtungswechsel, hin zu den Ethio-jazz inspirierten Funk-Grooves der Band The Sorcerers, die gerade ihr drittes Album „I Too Am A Stranger“ veröffentlicht haben. Ein Album das mich sofort begeister hat!

The musical kaleidoscope is spinning again and there is fantastic music to be heard in a variety of timbres. To kick things off, there’s a round of reggae sounds with soul. The first album feature is „Just A Little Talk“ by Soul Sugar, a band project by Guillaume Metenier. His songs are a refreshing fusion of reggae and soul. Really very nice!
Then it’s straight on to the highlight of the week. This is the new album by the Bacao Rhythm & Steel Band, simply titled „BRSB“. Behind it are the Mighty Mocambos from Hamburg. What was once intended as a side project really exploded after the debut single „P.I.M.P.“. Their version of this song has become legendary and was also recently featured in a key scene of the movie „Anatomy of a Case“ with an endless loop. The new album is now the band’s fourth and they are once again in absolute top form. It was and is always exciting to find out which songs the band covers with their unconventional versions and the original compositions they have put on the album are just as exciting. The band takes the listener on a journey that encompasses a variety of different moods and tempos, which also harmonize wonderfully. It’s great!
The Tel Aviv music scene currently has a lot of interesting bands to offer. There is a lot going on, especially around the band Sababa 5, who recently toured Germany. Two musicians from Sababa 5 are involved in the band VuVuVu, who released their self-titled debut album in September 2023. In my opinion, it’s one of the most interesting albums I’ve heard from this band so far. Captivating instrumentals with psychedelic gypsy breaks. Simply fabulous!
Then there is a subtle change of musical direction and we hear some current Library Music releases. I really love the Library Music series that the Madlib Invazion label launched last year. Every first Friday of the month for a year, an album with new Library Music gems is released. The sixth installment was produced by Gabriel Rowland and he also played all the instruments on the album himself. Gariel Rowland is best known for the Chicano soul combo Los Yesterdays, who have been featured here several times. Gabriel Rowland’s album „Gente Soul“ is one of the most beautiful and best that have been released so far in this highly interesting series.
