Diese Folge der Soul Unlimited Radioshow bietet wieder ein breit gefächertes musikalisches Spektrum. Es gibt eine Menge fantastischer Musik zu hören und zu entdecken. In der ersten Stunde gibt es vor allem Soul im klassischen Sinn und auch artverwandte Funk & Souljazz Grooves.
Das Album der Woche kommt von Thee Sinseers, die mit mit ihrem Debütalbum „Sinseerly Yours“ ein großartiges Album aufgenommen haben. Hier hört ihr Sweet Soul Music in ihrer schönsten Form. Der Band gelingt es auf wunderbare Weise den Chicano Soul Sound der 60er Jahre in die aktuelle Zeit zu transformieren. Im Juni 2019 erschien ihre erste Single „It Was Only A Dream“ bei Colemine Records und nach fast 5 Jahren und 3 weiteren Singles haben sie nun ihr Debütalbum veröffentlicht. Sie haben sich bewusst viel Zeit gelassen, um ein wirklich gutes und ausgereiftes Album zu schaffen. Das hat sich gelohnt und ich finde das Album wunderbar!
Da Thee Sinseers sich auch in der Tradition des Chicano Soul verorten, ist es naheliegend auch einige Klassiker des Genres aus den 60er Jahren vorzustellen. Sunny & The Sunliners sind hier schon öfters gespielt worden, doch die Royal Jesters bislang noch nie. Es war also höchste Zeit …
Die vom Gitaristen Eddie Roberts angeführten New Mastersounds sind schon seit 1997 in der zeitgenössischen Funk und Souljazz Szene aktiv. Ihr Hammond Organ Boogaloo Sound klingt noch immer herrlich frisch und lebendig. Kein Grund also der alten musikalischen Schule untreu zu werden. Das neue Album „Old School“ belegt dies eindrucksvoll.
Anschließend fächert sich das musikalische Kaleidoskop stilistisch breiter auf, aber dennoch hat auch hier alles etwas Soul in seiner musikalischen DNA. Nach einem kurzen Ausflug in afrikanische Musik mit der Leibziger Band Oluma geht es in den mittleren Osten und wir hören unter anderem interessante neue Singles von Les Dynamites und Sababa 5. Schließlich landen wird dann in Argentinien bei La Yegros, die als eine der treibenden Kräfte in der Nu Cumbia Szene gilt. Für ihr neues Album „Haz“ hat sie mit ihrem Produzenten Team aus King Coya und Daniel Martin ihren Bandsound neu definiert und er klingt nun auf erfrischende Art organisch. Ein großartiges Album!
Danach geht es mit dem neuen Album von Laurent Bardainne & Tigre D’Eau Douce weiter. Seine ersten beiden Alben haben mich total begeistert und ich bin zwischenzeitlich ein großer Fan von ihm. Das neue Album „Eden Beach Club“ hat bei mir noch nicht die spontane Begeisterung der ersten Alben entfacht, doch ich bin mir sicher dass dies nach weiteren Hörsessions sich wieder einstellen wird. Songs mit großem Potential sind auf jeden Fall vorhanden, wie zum Beispiel das großartige, hymnische „Singing“ …
Danach geht es mit der neuen Single von Magic In Threes weiter und ich bin überzeugt, dass „Aperetivo“ schnell Kultstatus erlangen wird. Eine gute Überleitung dann auch zu mehr cinematischen Sounds und dem neuen Album „Zombie Mandingo“ von Larry Manteca. Die Stücke dieses Albums sind zwischen 2013 und 2019 entstanden und sind der Soundtrack eines nicht existierenden Films. Larry Mateca huldigt hier den klassischen Soundtrack Sounds von 70er Jahre B-Movies. Eine ziemlich spannende musikalische Angelegenheit.

This episode of the Soul Unlimited Radioshow once again offers a broad musical spectrum. There is a lot of fantastic music to listen to and discover. In the first hour there is mainly soul in the classic sense and also related funk & soul jazz grooves.
The album of the week comes from Thee Sinseers, who have recorded a great album with their debut album „Sinseerly Yours“. Here you can hear sweet soul music in its most beautiful form. The band succeeds wonderfully in transforming the Chicano soul sound of the 60s into the present day. In June 2019, their first single „It Was Only A Dream“ was released on Colemine Records and after almost 5 years and 3 more singles, they have now released their debut album. They deliberately took their time to create a really good and mature album. It was worth it and I think the album is wonderful!

New Mastersounds, led by guitarist Eddie Roberts, have been active in the contemporary funk and soul jazz scene since 1997. Their Hammond organ boogaloo sound still sounds wonderfully fresh and lively. So there’s no reason to be unfaithful to the old musical school. The new album „Old School“ is impressive proof of this.
Subsequently, the musical kaleidoscope fans out stylistically, but everything here still has a bit of soul in its musical DNA. After a brief excursion into African music with the Leibzig Band Oluma, we move on to the Middle East and hear interesting new singles by Les Dynamites and Sababa 5, among others. Finally, we land in Argentina with La Yegros, who are considered one of the driving forces in the nu cumbia scene. For her new album „Haz“, she has redefined her band sound with her producer team of King Coya and Daniel Martin and it now sounds refreshingly organic. A great album!
Then it’s on to the new album by Laurent Bardainne & Tigre D’Eau Douce. His first two albums totally thrilled me and I’ve become a big fan of his in the meantime. The new album „Eden Beach Club“ has not yet sparked the spontaneous enthusiasm of the first albums in me, but I am sure that this will happen again after further listening sessions. There are definitely songs with great potential, such as the great, anthemic „Singing“ …
Then we continue with the new single from Magic In Threes and I am convinced that „Aperetivo“ will quickly achieve cult status. A good transition to more cinematic sounds and the new album „Zombie Mandingo“ by Larry Manteca. The tracks on this album were created between 2013 and 2019 and are the soundtrack to a non-existent movie. Larry Mateca pays homage to the classic soundtrack sounds of 70s B-movies. A pretty exciting musical affair.
