Wir begeben uns auf eine musikalische Reise nach Afrika. Im Mittelpunkt steht die Compilation „Congo Funk!“ die uns spannende Musik rund um den kongolesischen Rumba präsentiert. Nach dem Musikfestival Zaire ’74, das im Vorfeld des legendären „Rumble In The Jungle“ Boxkampfes zwischen Muhammed Ali und George Foreman in Kinshasa stattfand, fing die Musikszene der beiden Staaten am Kongo-Fluss zu vibrieren an. Hunderte junger Musiker fühlten sich durch den Auftritt von James Brown inspiriert und sie begannen zu experimentieren um ihren Sound zu finden, bei dem sich hyperaktiver Rumba mit Elementen von Psych und Funk vermischte. Die Ergebnisse dieser kleinen musikalischen Revolution reflektiert die hervorragende Compilation „Congo Funk!“, die vom Team des Labels Analog Africa zusammengestellt und veröffentlicht wurde. Eine hochinteressante und sehr spannende Compilation, die Platte der Woche!
Die Sendung beginnt und endet mit je einem Song von Florence Adooni, die auf ihrer aktuellen 7″ Single bei Philophon veröffentlicht wurden. Beide Songs sind außerordentlich gelungene und spannende Fusionen elektronischer Club-Sounds mit ghanaischer Folklore.
Außerdem gibt es noch Musik von weiteren afrikanischen Künstlern aus Ghana, Nigeria und Südafrika: Ganz aktuell ist da die Reissue des Albums „Locomotive Train“ von der African Brothers Band International Of Ghana, die im März bei BBE erschienen ist. Die Wiederveröffentlichung der Alben von Rex Omar, Odion Iruoje und The Movers sind zwar schon etwas länger her, doch die Alben sind noch immer erhältlich und auch sehr empfehlenswert. Auch einen kleinen musikalischen Ausflug in die Karibik gibt es, denn die Black Truth And Rhythm Band stammt aus Trinidad und wurde aktuell bei Soundway wiederveröffentlicht. Auf diesem Label wird im Mai 2024 eine zweite Folge der Compilation „Ghana Special“ erscheinen und einen guten Vorgeschmack darauf bietet der Song „Otanhunu“ von Marijata ft. Ata Kak. We embark on a musical journey to Africa. The focus is on the compilation „Congo Funk!“, which presents us exciting music based around the Congolese rumba. After the Zaire ’74 music festival, which took place in the run-up to the legendary „Rumble In The Jungle“ boxing match between Muhammed Ali and George Foreman in Kinshasa, the music scene in the two countries on the Congo River began to vibrate. Hundreds of young musicians felt inspired by James Brown’s performance and began experimenting to find their sound, blending hyperactive rumba with elements of psych and funk. The results of this small musical revolution are reflected in the excellent compilation „Congo Funk!“, compiled and released by the Analog Africa label team. A highly interesting and very exciting compilation, the record of the week!
The show begins and ends with one song each by Florence Adooni, released on her latest 7″ single on Philophon. Both songs are extraordinarily successful and exciting fusions of electronic club sounds with Ghanaian folklore.
There is also music from other African artists from Ghana, Nigeria and South Africa: the most recent is the reissue of the album „Locomotive Train“ by the African Brothers Band International Of Ghana, which was released by BBE in March.
