Mit großer Spannung habe ich das neue Album von Stereolab erwartet, es ist ihr erstes Album mit neuer Musik seit 15 Jahren. Der Sound der Band war schon immer einzigartig und zeitlos. So ist es naheliegend, dass die Band musikalisch einfach da weitermacht, wo sie vor 15 Jahren aufgehört hat. Stereolab entwickeln ihren retro-futuristischen Sound konsequent weiter und die Musik ist wie immer beeindruckend eklektisch, mit einer wahrlich breiten Palette an Stilen. Von Post-Rock über Easy Listening bis hin zu Leftfield Electronica reicht das Spektrum und gepaart ist das Ganze mit straffen, hypnotischen Grooves, die vom motorischen Krautrock der legendären deutschen Band Neu! abgeleitet sind. Stereolab sind mit einem großartigen Album zurück und „Instant Holograms On Metal Film“ ist das Album der Woche!
Doch es gibt noch eine Reihe weiterer großartiger Alben in dieser Episode. Der walisische Musiker Carwyn Ellis hat vor Kurzem mit seiner Band Rio 18 das Album „Fontana Rosa“ veröffentlicht. Sie sind weltweit die einzige Band, die lateinamerikanische Musik unterschiedlichster Art mit Texten in walisischer Sprache verbinden. Es war eines der letzten Alben die in Liam Watsons legendären Toerag Studios in London aufgenommen wurde. Das Studio war rund 30 Jahre lang eines der führenden Analog-Studios in London. Das Studio und der für seine bemerkenswert gute Klangästhetik bekannte Toningenieur Liam Watson waren hat eine hervorragende Basis für die Aufnahmen dies Albums. Die Magie der Songs auf „Fontana Rosa“ bestätigen dies eindrucksvoll.
Das Label Big Crown öffnet zum vierten Mal seine Archive um Aufnahmen zu veröffentlichen, die zu gut sind um im Archiv zu verstauben. Dieses Mal sind es 13 hervorragende Aufnahmen der Bacao Rhythm & Steel Band, die ihre verdiente Veröffentlichung bekommen. Ein tolles Album, nicht nur für eingefleischte Fans der Band aus Hamburg.
Die australische Band Surprise Chef hat sich mit ihrem eigenwilligen psychedelischen Instrumental Soul Sound einen Namen gemacht. Nun sind sie mit ihrem neuen Album „Superb“ am Start, das die aufgrund der Vorgängeralben hohen Erwartungen voll und ganz erfüllt. Einmal mehr ein wunderbares Album dieser Ausnahmeband.
Mystic Jungle sind ein Projekt von Dario di Pace, einem Produzenten und DJ aus Neapel. Er betreibt auch das Label Periodica Records, auf dem das neue Album „Sunset Breaker“ von Mystic Jungle veröffentlicht wurde. Es ist eine vielfältige Sammlung von Groove orientierten Songs, wobei das Spektrum von treibenden Boogie-Tracks bis zu entspannt groovenden, von Lovers-Rock und Dub beeinflussten Tracks reicht. Ein abwechslungsreiches und schlicht wunderbares Album!

I eagerly awaited Stereolab’s new album, their first album of new music in 15 years. The band’s sound has always been unique and timeless. So it stands to reason that the band would simply pick up musically where they left off 15 years ago. Stereolab consistently develop their retro-futuristic sound, and the music is as impressively eclectic as ever, with a truly wide range of styles. The spectrum ranges from post-rock to easy listening to leftfield electronica, paired with tight, hypnotic grooves derived from the motorik krautrock of the legendary German band Neu! Stereolab are back with a great album, and “Instant Holograms On Metal Film” is the album of the week!
But there are a number of other great albums in this episode. Welsh musician Carwyn Ellis recently released the album “Fontana Rosa” with his band Rio 18. They are the only band in the world to combine Latin American music of various kinds with lyrics in the Welsh language. It was one of the last albums recorded at Liam Watson’s legendary Toerag Studios in London. For around 30 years, the studio was one of the leading analog studios in London. The studio and sound engineer Liam Watson, known for his remarkably good sound aesthetics, provided an excellent basis for the recordings of this album. The magic of the songs on “Fontana Rosa” impressively confirms this.
