A mixed bag of soulful delights!
Es ist eine ziemlich bunte Mischung unterschiedlicher Stile. Mit einer Rückblende in die Ära des Trip-Hop geht es los. Fast nahtlos folgen darauf Can, die wohl einflussreichste Krautrockband überhaupt, mit einem Mix von Trip-Hop Legende U.N.K.L.E. veredelt. Nun ist der rote Teppich für das Album der Woche ausgerollt, denn der Krautrock von Can könnte auch eine der Inspirationsquellen der Band Tortoise sein. Die Band aus Chicago ist jetzt bei International Anthem unter Vertrag, einem der aktuell innovativsten Labels. Da haben Tortoise nun das lang erwartete neue Album „Touch“ veröffentlicht. Dieses Mal klingt die Band etwas elektronischer als üblich, doch ich finde das passt hervorragend. Das Album läuft bei mir seit der Veröffentlichung quasi in Heavy Rotation, denn es ist einfach fantastisch geworden. Das Album der Woche!
Nach einigen neuen Singles geht es dann in eine ganz andere Richtung. Coco Maria hat eine weitere Compilation zusammen gestellt, die sie nun auf ihrem eigenen Label „Club Coco“ veröffentlicht hat. Das Album ist wirklich großartig geworden und ich finde „Club Coco – New Dimensions in Latin Music“ ist die beste der drei Alben die in dieser Reihe erschienen sind.
Brian Jackson hat sich mit den legendären House-Produzenten Masters At Work zusammen getan. Mit Ihnen hat er eine Reihe seiner Klassiker aus seiner Zeit mit Gil Scott-Heron neu arrangiert und aufgenommen, die nun bei BBE auf dem Vinyl-Doppelalbum „EP One“ veröffentlicht wurden. Zwei dieser großartigen Neu-Interpretationen habe ich für diese Episode ausgewählt.
Die französische Band The Buttshakers melden sich mit einem soliden neuen Album zurück. Auf „Lessons In Love“ gibt es klassischen Soul, der auch mal funky ist oder den Blues hat. Musikalisch ist dies eine runde Sache und gepaart mit engagierten Lyrics ergibt es ein Album für Herz und Verstand.
Die Veröffentlichungen des Labels Batov Records haben es mir schon seit längerem angetan. Nun gibt es zwei weitere spannende Alben von diesem Label zu hören: Ganz aktuell ist „primordial Soup“ von Eje Eje erschienen. Ein Solo-Projekt von Itamar Kluger, dem Gründer der Satellites. Eine brodelnde Mischung aus türkischen Percussions, Psych-Gitarren, Dub-Texturen, Sythesizern und Drum Machines entwirft eine hochinteressante Klanglandschaft, die sowohl auf der Tanzfläche als auch auf dem Kopfhörer funktioniert. Das trifft auch auf das Album „Güle Güle“ von Romano zu, wobei ich die Sounds zum Teil noch zwingender tanzbar finde. Insbesondere „Guzleme“, der Opener des Albums, ist ein sehr gutes Beispiel dafür. Viel Vergnügen beim Anhören dieser Episode!

A mixed bag of soulful delights!
It’s a pretty colorful mix of different styles. It starts with a flashback to the era of trip hop. This is followed almost seamlessly by Can, arguably the most influential Krautrock band of all time, refined with a mix by trip-hop legend U.N.K.L.E. Now the red carpet is rolled out for the album of the week, because Can’s Krautrock could also be one of the sources of inspiration for the band Tortoise. The Chicago band is now signed to International Anthem, one of the most innovative labels around. Tortoise have now released their long-awaited new album, “Touch.” This time around, the band sounds a little more electronic than usual, but I think it works really well. The album has been on heavy rotation for me since its release because it’s just fantastic. Album of the week!
After a few new singles, we’re heading in a completely different direction. Coco Maria has put together another compilation, which she has now released on her own label, “Club Coco.” The album is really great, and I think “Club Coco – New Dimensions in Latin Music” is the best of the three albums released in this series.

I’ve been a fan of Batov Records‘ releases for quite some time. Now there are two more exciting albums from this label to listen to: The latest release is “primordial Soup” by Eje Eje. A solo project by Itamar Kluger, founder of the Satellites. A seething mixture of Turkish percussion, psych guitars, dub textures, synthesizers, and drum machines creates a highly interesting soundscape that works both on the dance floor and on headphones. The same goes for Romano’s album “Güle Güle,” although I find some of the sounds even more compellingly danceable. “Guzleme,” the album’s opener, is a particularly good example of this.
