Soundtracks und artverwandte Sounds sind das Thema dieser Episode. Es gibt einige aktuelle Veröffentlichungen die zu diesem Thema sehr gut passen.
Die zweite Folge der Reihe „The Tape Masters“ mit Aufnahmen aus dem Archiv von Peter Thomas konzentriert sich dieses Mal auf Songs, die Soul in der musikalischen DNA haben. Das Peter Thomas Sound Orchester hat da sehr viel zu bieten und die 20 Stücke, die Björn Wagner von Mocambo Records ausgewählt hat, sind alle Spitzenklasse!
Auch das obskure Saint Tropez Orchestra ist mit seinem Album „Themes Et Atmospheres Vol.2“ dabei. Nachdem das erste Album bei Library Music Begeisterten schon als Geheimtip gehandelt wurde, waren hier die Erwartungen hoch. Das von Lee Skelly produzierte und komponierte Werk kann sich hören lassen und die Fans der ersten Folge werden auch davon begeistert sein.
In der Library Music Szene stehen auch die ersten 3 Folgen des Library Music Archivs bei ATA Records hoch im Kurs. Nun hat das Label mit seiner Hausband eine 4. Folge eingespielt und vor kurzem veröffentlicht. Man kann mit Fug und Recht behaupten, auch diese Folge ist wieder exzellent geworden und wird die Fans dieser Reihe begeistern.
Mit großer Spannung habe ich das Debütalbum von Pierpont & Helgeson erwartet. Die ersten digitalen Singles die vor ein paar Monaten veröffentlicht wurde fand ich schon ziemlich spannend. Nun ist das komplette Album veröffentlicht worden und ich bin ziemlich begeistert. Das Duo entführt uns in eine kaleidoskopische Welt, in der die energiegeladenen cinematischen Sounds von 70er Jahre Heist-Movies auf die Eleganz von Easy Listening oder rauhe und rockige Funk-Sounds treffen. Es ist ein toll orchestriertes und abwechslungsreiches Album geworden. Die beiden Musiker waren auch schon bei The Lakers aktiv. Das war die Band, die mit der Soul Legende Sonny Knight eine Reihe exzellenter Alben bei Secret Stash veröffentlicht hatte.
Auf das zweite Album von Or Kantor habe ich mich schon sehr gefreut. Der in London lebende Tätowierer kam durch Zufall zu einem Plattenvertrag. Johnnie Sharoni, der A&R bei Anova Music ist, hörte während einer Tattoo Session Or Kantors Demoaufnahmen und war sofort begeistert. Das führte zu Or Kantors Debüt „Sarda Sarda“ aus dem Jahr 2024. Das Album war eine echte Entdeckung und ich fand es richtig klasse. Nun hat Or Kantor das weiterentwickelt, was er als „Subterranean Music“ bezeichnet: Eine atmosphärische Fusion aus mediterranen Balladen, Desert Blues, Spiritual Jazz und psychedelischen Texturen. Seine instrumentalen Stücke wirken sowohl zeitlos als auch cinematisch. Sein neues Album ist ganz nach meinem Geschmack und ich finde es ist wieder absolut großartig geworden!
Das Album „Hawalat“ von Charif Megarbane ist bereits im April diesen Jahres erschienen und ich habe seine großartige Musik erst jetzt entdeckt. Auch sein Debüt-Album „Marzipan“ ist übrigens sehr empfehlenswert und bietet einen interessanten Blick auf den Libanon von innen. Das aktuelle Album „Hawalat“ richtet den Blick jedoch mehr nach außen, auf die Diaspora, auf den Begriff des Exils.“ Megarbane sagt, er interessiere sich für die Verbindungen zwischen dem Globalen und dem Domestischen, dem Alltäglichen und dem Kosmischen, und wollte Raum für eine nichtlineare Entwicklung schaffen. Das Ganze ist in wunderbare cinematisch epische Songs gebettet. Ein wunderbares Album.
Zum Schluß gibt es ein weiteres Highlight: Das neue Album „La Grande Evasion“ von The Offline. Dahinter steht der in Hamburg lebende Multi-Instrumentalist und Produzent Felix Müller. Das Album ist durchzogen von Anklängen an anatolischen Rock der 70er Jahre, Soul, Surf, Lo-Fi-Beats und psychedelischem Jazz. Jeder Track ist eine Postkarte aus einer anderen Szene, ein anderes Gefühl. Auf „La Grande Evasion“ schafft The Offline eine Balance zwischen Eskapismus und Intimität und komponiert nicht nur Beats oder Vignetten, sondern Miniatur-Soundtracks für imaginäre Szenen. Es ist ein Album, das den Hörer dazu einlädt, sich treiben zu lassen, zu träumen, zu entfliehen … wenn auch nur für einen Moment. Viel Vergnügen beim Anhören dieser Episode!

Soundtracks and related music are the focus of this episode. There are several recent releases that fit this theme perfectly.
The second installment of the series “The Tape Masters” with recordings from the Peter Thomas archive focuses this time on recordings that have soul in their musical DNA. The Peter Thomas Sound Orchestra has a lot to offer in this regard, and the 20 tracks selected by Björn Wagner from Mocambo Records are all top-notch!
The obscure Saint Tropez Orchestra is also featured with its album “Themes Et Atmospheres Vol.2.” After the first album was already considered an insider tip among library music enthusiasts, expectations were high. The work, produced and composed by Lee Skelly, is impressive, and fans of the first episode will also be thrilled.
In the library music scene, the first three installments of the Library Music Archive on ATA Records are also very popular. Now the label has recorded a fourth installment with its house band and recently released it. It’s fair to say that this installment is once again excellent and will delight fans of the series.
I eagerly awaited the debut album from Pierpont & Helgeson. I found the first digital singles, which were released a few months ago, quite exciting. Now the complete album has been released and I am quite thrilled. The duo takes us into a kaleidoscopic world where the energetic cinematic sounds of 70s heist movies meet the elegance of easy listening or rough and rocky funk sounds. It’s a wonderfully orchestrated and varied album. The two musicians were also previously active in The Lakers, the band that released a series of excellent albums on Secret Stash with soul legend Sonny Knight.
I was really looking forward to Or Kantor’s second album. The London-based tattoo artist got a record deal by chance. Johnnie Sharoni, who is A&R at Anova Music, heard Or Kantor’s demo recordings during a tattoo session and was immediately impressed. This led to Or Kantor’s debut “Sarda Sarda” in 2024. The album was a real discovery and I thought it was really great. Now Or Kantor has further developed what he calls “subterranean music”: an atmospheric fusion of Mediterranean ballads, desert blues, spiritual jazz, and psychedelic textures. His instrumental pieces seem both timeless and cinematic. His new album is right up my alley and I think it’s turned out absolutely great again!
Charif Megarbane’s album “Hawalat” was released in April this year, and I’ve only just discovered his great music. His debut album “Marzipan” is also highly recommended and offers an interesting insight into Lebanon from the inside. However, the current album “Hawalat” looks more outward, at the diaspora, at the concept of exile. Megarbane says he is interested in the connections between the global and the domestic, the everyday and the cosmic, and wanted to create space for a non-linear development. The whole thing is embedded in wonderful cinematic epic songs. A wonderful album.
Finally, there is another highlight: the new album “La Grande Evasion” by The Offline. Behind it is Hamburg-based multi-instrumentalist and producer Felix Müller. The album is permeated with echoes of 70s Anatolian rock, soul, surf, lo-fi beats, and psychedelic jazz. Each track is a postcard from a different scene, a different feeling. On “La Grande Evasion,” The Offline strikes a balance between escapism and intimacy, composing not just beats or vignettes, but miniature soundtracks for imaginary scenes. It’s an album that invites the listener to drift away, to dream, to escape… if only for a moment. Enjoy listening to this episode!
