Per Anhalter durch diverse Musik-Galaxien:
Der erste Halt auf unserem Trip durch die Musik-Galaxien ist das neue Album von Yin Yin. Das Album „Yatta!“ ist das vierte Album der holländischen Band, deren hochgradig süchtig machenden Sound man auch als „kosmischen Disco“ beschreiben könnte. Der klangliche Fußabdruck der Band ist ein sich stetig weiterentwickelndes Kaleidoskop aus Sounds, Texturen und Beats. Insbesondere asiatische Einflüsse prägen den globalen Sound der Band. Auf „Yatta!“ ist es der Band einmal mehr gelungen, eine abwechslungsreiche Mischung aus energiegeladenen, tanzbaren und entspannten Soundscapes zu schaffen, die dazu einladen mit Yin Yin auf die Reise zu gehen.
An der nächsten Station treffen wir auf eine interessante Compilation, die sich dem Werk der legendären New Wave Band Talking Heads widmet. Drew McFadden hat die Compilation kuratiert und möchte mit „Naive Melodies“ den tiefgreifenden und oft übersehenen Einfluss der Black Music auf den Sound der Talking Heads hervorheben, der sich aus den rhythmischen Grundlagen der afro-diasporischen Traditionen, Soul, Gospel, Latin und Spiritual Jazz speist. Dieses Projekt ist eine Gelegenheit, das Erbe der Talking Heads durch die Linse der Innovationen, die es geprägt haben, neu zu interpretieren und diese Einflüsse durch die Stimmen der zukunftsweisendsten Künstler von heute in den Vordergrund zu rücken. Ein Projekt das ich ziemlich gelungen und vor allem sehr abwechslungsreich und inspirierend finde.
Auf Martinique hat sich David Walters zurückgezogen um die Songs für sein neues Album „Ti Love“ zu schreiben und erste Demo-Versionen der neuen Songs einzuspielen. Zurück in Frankreich hat er, mit Unterstützung der befreundeten Produzenten Guts, Izem, Blundetto, Art Of Tones, Captain Planet und Bluestaeb, die finalen Versionen der Songs fertig gestellt. Es ist ein sehr gefühlvolles Album geworden, dessen Songs aufrichtig und auch verletzlich sind, ohne dabei den mitreißenden Groove zu vernachlässigen. Ein wunderbares Album, das ich sofort in mein Herz geschlossen habe und es ist das Album der Woche!
Wales ist die Heimat von Carwyn Ellis & Rio 18. Der Musiker und seine Band machen eine sehr interessante Musik, die sehr stark von brasilianischen Musiktraditionen beeinfusst ist. Das neue Album „Haf“ wurde in London und Wales aufgenommen und in Rio de Janeiro abgemischt. Carwyn Ellis hat wieder ein sehr schönes Album geschaffen, bei dem jedes Hören ein Genuss ist.
Brasilianische Musik ist allgegenwärtig und wird von vielen gefeiert. Das musikalische Erbe Brasiliens ist kolossal und hat eine enorme Anziehungskraft. Doch wie interpretiert die junge Musiker*Innen-Generation dieses Erbe neu? DJ Tahira mit der von ihm kuratierten Compilation „Tapioca – Brasil Diversao“ den Fokus darauf gerichtet. Diese Compilation bietet einen sehr interessanten und spannenden Einblick in neue Entwicklungen brasilianischer Musik-Stile.
Im peruanischen Amazonasgebiet, in einer Ecke, wo die Geräusche des Waldes mit streunenden Radiowellen aus Kolumbien, Brasilien und Ecuador verschmelzen, lebte der Musiker Ranil, der 1935 als Raúl Llerena Vásquez geboren wurde. Vor allem in den 1970er Jahren kreierte er mit seiner Band Ranil Y Su Conjunto Tropical, in wechselnden Besetzungen, einen Sound, den die Einheimischen liebevoll „llullampeo” nannten: Fantasievoll, unvorhersehbar und fabelhaft ungezügelt. Seine Perkussionisten webten Grooves, die seitdem in der Region nicht mehr aufgetaucht sind. Das Label Analog Africa hat nun zum zweiten Mal eine Compilation mit 14 Stücken aus den Archiven von Ranil veröffentlicht. Das Album „Galaxia Tropical“ ist eine Reise durch Klanglandschaften von bizarrer Schönheit. Es ist schlichtweg großartig!
Zum Schluss verbeugen wir uns vor einem bedeutenden Künstler aus Ghana: Als Komponist, Gitarrist und Sänger verband Ebo Taylor traditionelle ghanaische Rhythmen und Liedformen mit Jazz-Harmonik, Funk-Grooves und Elementen des entstehenden Afrobeat und trug so maßgeblich zur Popularisierung des Highlife in und außerhalb Ghanas bei. Über sechs Jahrzehnte galt er in Ghana und in der Diaspora als Brückenfigur zwischen traditionellen und modernen Klangwelten, deren Werk die Entwicklung populärer afrikanischer Musik stark beeinflusste. Am 7. Februar 2026 starb Ebo Taylor im Alter von 90 Jahren.

Hitchhiking through various musical galaxies:
The first stop on our trip through the musical galaxies is Yin Yin’s new album. The album “Yatta!” is the fourth album by the Dutch band, whose highly addictive sound could also be described as “cosmic disco.” The band’s sonic footprint is an ever-evolving kaleidoscope of sounds, textures, and beats. Asian influences in particular shape the band’s global sound. On “Yatta!”, the band has once again succeeded in creating a diverse mix of energetic, danceable, and relaxed soundscapes that invite you to join Yin Yin on their journey.
At the next stop, we encounter an interesting compilation dedicated to the work of the legendary new wave band Talking Heads. Drew McFadden curated the compilation and, with “Naive Melodies,” aims to highlight the profound and often overlooked influence of black music on the sound of Talking Heads, which draws on the rhythmic foundations of Afro-diasporic traditions, soul, gospel, Latin, and spiritual jazz. This project is an opportunity to reinterpret the legacy of Talking Heads through the lens of the innovations that shaped it and to bring these influences to the fore through the voices of today’s most forward-thinking artists. I find this project quite successful and, above all, very diverse and inspiring.
David Walters retreated to Martinique to write the songs for his new album “Ti Love” and record the first demo versions of the new songs. Back in France, with the support of his producer friends Guts, Izem, Blundetto, Art Of Tones, Captain Planet, and Bluestaeb, he completed the final versions of the songs. The result is a very soulful album whose songs are sincere and vulnerable without neglecting the rousing groove. A wonderful album that I immediately took to my heart, and it’s the album of the week!
Wales is the home of Carwyn Ellis & Rio 18. The musician and his band make very interesting music that is strongly influenced by Brazilian musical traditions. The new album “Haf” was recorded in London and Wales and mixed in Rio de Janeiro. Carwyn Ellis has once again created a beautiful album that is a pleasure to listen to every time.
Brazilian music is omnipresent and celebrated by many. Brazil’s musical heritage is colossal and has enormous appeal. But how is the younger generation of musicians reinterpreting this heritage? DJ Tahira focuses on this question with his compilation “Tapioca – Brasil Diversao.” This compilation offers a very interesting and exciting insight into new developments in Brazilian music styles.
In the Peruvian Amazon, in a corner where the sounds of the forest merge with stray radio waves from Colombia, Brazil, and Ecuador, lived the musician Ranil, born Raúl Llerena Vásquez in 1935. Especially in the 1970s, he and his band Ranil Y Su Conjunto Tropical, with varying lineups, created a sound that the locals affectionately called “llullampeo”: imaginative, unpredictable, and fabulously unrestrained. His percussionists wove grooves that have not been heard in the region since. The label Analog Africa has now released a second compilation of 14 tracks from Ranil’s archives. The album “Galaxia Tropical” is a journey through soundscapes of bizarre beauty. It is simply magnificent!
Finally, we bow to an important artist from Ghana: as a composer, guitarist, and singer, Ebo Taylor combined traditional Ghanaian rhythms and song forms with jazz harmonies, funk grooves, and elements of the emerging Afrobeat, thus contributing significantly to the popularization of highlife in and outside Ghana. For over six decades, he was regarded in Ghana and the diaspora as a bridge between traditional and modern soundscapes, whose work greatly influenced the development of popular African music. Ebo Taylor died on February 7, 2026, at the age of 90.
