Alles rund um den Groove – von Jazz bis Boogie mit einer globalen Note.
Zum Auftakt gibt es eine kleine Runde mit Jazz Rare Groove Klassikern. Dann kommen wir zum ersten Album-Feature: Das ursprünglich 1980 erschienene Album „After Midnight“ des Keyboarders Boy Katindig ist stark von zeitgenössischen Soul- und Funk-Künstlern aus den USA sowie Lateinamerika beeinflusst, insbesondere vom berühmten brasilianischen Perkussionisten Paulinho da Costa. Jazz-Fusion, Disco-Funk, Latin Jazz und Batucada-Rhythmen erhalten auf „After Midnight“ eine philippinische Note. Boy Katindig hat mit „After Midnight“ ein beeindruckendes Album geschaffen, das vor kurzem von Sama Sama Records wiederveröffentlicht. Es ist die erste Veröffentlichung auf dem von Alice Whittington aka Norsicaa gegründeten Label.
Das nächste Album-Highlight ist die Compilation „DJ Perry Louis presents Shiftless Shuffle“, die zum 25-jährigen Jubiläum dieser Clubnacht veröffentlicht wurde. Perry Louis hat sich nicht nur als DJ einen Namen gemacht, sondern ist insbesondere auch als Tänzer, Gründer und Choreograph beim legendären Kollektiv JazzCotech Dancers bekannt. Tübinger Clubgänger*Innen erinnern sich eventuell auch an sein Gastspiel im Schlachthaus Tübingen, das auf Einladung von Emanuela De Luca im Rahmen der Jazz und Klassiktage 2023 stattfand. Nun hat er eine Compilation zusammengestellt, die Deep Jazz, Fusion, Latin und groovige Tracks vereint. Die Compilation spiegelt sowohl das reiche Erbe der Londoner Jazz-Dance Szene als auch ihre Dynamik wider.
Das Album der Woche kommt vom Ezra Collective, die mit ihrem vierten Studioalbum „Here Because Of Hope“ ein kleines Meisterwerk geschaffen haben. Im Mittelpunkt steht der einerseits gefühlvolle und andererseits auch mitreißende Groove, der von westafrikanischen Rhythmen inspiriert ist. Im Zusammenspiel mit der kollektiven Energie und Spiritualität der Band und ihren Gast-Sänger*Innen entfaltet diese Musik eine ganz besondere Magie.
Zum Abschluss gibt es noch einige aktuelle Single-Veröffentlichungen von David Walters, Nickodemus & Gabriele Poso sowie einige Tracks von Alben, die in den letzten Monaten erschienen sind. Diese Songs haben vor allem eines gemeinsam: Sie machen Lust zum Tanzen. Diesbezüglich empfehle ich die Veranstaltung „I Love To Dance“, die am Freitag den 25. September 2026 ab 20 Uhr im Schlachthaus Tübingen stattfindet. An den Plattenspielern ist das Bag Of Goodies Team mit Emanuela De Luca und Bobby Mhark.

What’s wrong with groovin‘
Everything about the groove—from jazz to boogie, with a global twist.
We’ll kick things off with a short roundup of jazz rare groove classics. Then we’ll move on to our first album feature: Keyboardist Boy Katindig’s album “After Midnight,” originally released in 1980, is heavily influenced by contemporary soul and funk artists from the U.S. and Latin America, particularly the famous Brazilian percussionist Paulinho da Costa. Jazz fusion, disco-funk, Latin jazz, and batucada rhythms take on a Filipino twist on “After Midnight.” With “After Midnight,” Boy Katindig has created an impressive album that was recently reissued by Sama Sama Records. It’s the first release on the label founded by Alice Whittington, aka Norsicaa.
The next album highlight is the compilation “DJ Perry Louis presents Shiftless Shuffle,” released to mark the 25th anniversary of this club night. Perry Louis has not only made a name for himself as a DJ but is also particularly well-known as a dancer, founder, and choreographer with the legendary JazzCotech Dancers collective. Clubgoers in Tübingen may also recall his guest performance at the Schlachthaus Tübingen, which took place at the invitation of Emanuela De Luca as part of the 2023 Jazz and Classical Music Days. Now he has put together a compilation that brings together deep jazz, fusion, Latin, and groovy tracks. The compilation reflects both the rich heritage of the London jazz-dance scene and its dynamism.
The Album of the Week comes from the Ezra Collective, who have created a small masterpiece with their fourth studio album, “Here Because Of Hope.” At its heart is a groove that is both soulful and rousing, inspired by West African rhythms. Combined with the collective energy and spirituality of the band and their guest vocalists, this music unfolds a very special magic.
To wrap things up, there are a few recent single releases from David Walters, Nickodemus & Gabriele Poso, as well as some tracks from albums that have come out in recent months. These songs have one thing in common above all else: they make you want to dance. In that regard, I recommend the event “I Love To Dance,” which takes place on Friday, September 25, 2026, starting at 8 p.m. at the Schlachthaus in Tübingen. The Bag Of Goodies team—featuring Emanuela De Luca and Bobby Mhark—will be spinning records.
