Auch in Italien tut sich so einiges in Sachen Funk und Soul. Das Label „Record Kicks“ wurde 2003 von Nicolò Pozzoli aka „Nick Recordkicks“ in Mailand gegründet. Inzwischen kann das Label auf eine beachtliche Anzahl von Veröffentlichungen zurückblicken. In dieser Soul Unlimited Ausgabe stehen zwei aktuelle Platten dieses Labels im Focus:
Die „Diplomats of Solid Sound“ haben ihr fünftes Album „What Goes Around Comes Around“ veröffentlicht. Schon die Auftakt-Nummer zum Album ist ein regelrechter Burner: „B-o-o-g-a-l-o-o“ ist ein Party-Tune erster Güte. Auch die anderen Songs vom Album können sich hören lassen, eine insgesamt runde und abwechslungreiche Sache.
Die ebenfalls auf Record Kicks erscheinende Compilation-Reihe „Soulshaker“ geht bereits in die siebte Runde. Eine gelungene Werkschau des „State of The Art“ der aktuellen Funk und Soul Szene. Einige rare und nur in geringer Auflage erschienen Songs finden sich hier wieder. Einer meiner Favoriten ist das von Binky Griptide produzierte Stück „Real Tru Love“ von der spanischen Band „The Pepper Pots“. Eine Compilation die ich euch bedenkenlos empfehlen kann.
In der zweiten Stunde ist das Schwerpunkthema das amkommenden Samstag stattfindende Konzert der Tübinger Band „Les Chiques“ im Rahmen der Jazz und Klassiktage. Man hat nicht allzu oft die Gelegenheit diese bemerkenswerte Band live zu sehen und daher sollte man es sich nicht entgehen lassen. Im Anschluss an das Konzert gibt es noch ein DJ-Set von mir, das unter dem Motto steht: Get Jazzed – A Funky Souljazz Experience.
