Das neue Album der Menahan Street Band ist ein schöner Beweis dafür, wie abwechslungsreich Instrumentalmusik sein kann. Funky Sounds die mit innovativen Ideen glänzen: Großartig sind zum Beispiel die Ukulele Sounds beim Titelstück „The Crossing“, ausserdem gibt es abgedrehte Orgel Sounds zu hören und ein superbes Zusammenspiel der Bläser. Die Platte der Woche bei Soul Unlimited!
Lange hat es gedauert bis es mal wieder etwas neues von Donald Fagen gibt. Er lässt sich bekanntlich sehr viel Zeit und daher sind seine Werke auch besonders ausgereift. Sein neues Solo-Album „Sunken Condos“ ist wieder ein klasse Sache, das nicht nur eingefleischte Steely Dan Fans glücklich machen wird.
Auch das zweite Album der Greg Foat Group ist eine schöne Überraschung. Wunderbar entspannte Klänge gibt es auf „Girl And Robot With Flowers“ zu hören, denen man sich gerne ausgiebig widmet.
Das Berliner Label Sonorama liefert schon seit einigen Jahren exquisite Reissues rarer Perlen, vor allem mit Jazz und auch Library Funk. Drei neue Veröffentlichungen von Sonorama werden in der Sendung vorgestellt: Zwei hervorragende Library Funk Alben von Joy Unlimited und von der Intercity Soul Association, sowie „Now’s The Time Vol.2“, eine Compilation mit Deep Jazz aus Deutschland.
