Vor über 20 Jahren haben die Poets Of Rhythm ihre erste Platte aufgenommen. Sie waren die definitiven Pioniere des Funk Revivals, lange bevor man davon gesprochen hat. Die nun auf Daptone erschienene Compilation „Anthology 1992 bis 2003“ gibt einen sehr guten Überblick über das Werk der Band, inklusive der diversen Nebenprojekte. Sie unterstreicht die enorme Bedeutung, die diese Band für das Revival der Funk & Soul Musik hatte. Die Platte der Woche in dieser Ausgabe von Soul Unlimited!
Elvis Costello hat zusammen mit den Roots das Album „Wise Up Ghost“ aufgenommen. Eine ziemlich interessante Kollaboration zwischen dem ehemaligen New Wave Songpoeten und der HipHop Band. Eine Platte die mehr ist als nur ein Elvis Costello-Album mit den Roots als Backing Band. Sicher wird es Roots-Fans weniger gefallen, als Elvis Costello-Fans. Zwei Fan-Welten, die nur eine geringe Schnittmenge haben, zu der ich mich zählen würde. Daher möchte ich euch das Album empfehlen, man sollte es sich unbedingt anhören.
Auch das neue Album von Frootful ist hörenswert. Das Album „Heavy Weight“ präsentiert mit einige Neuerungen im Frootful-Sound, das sind vor allem bluesige Einflüsse, die angenehm überraschen.
Ausserdem gibt es in der Sendung noch eine Reihe aktueller Produktionen und Wiederveröffentlungen alter Soul und Funk Perlen zu hören.
