Library Music, Jazzy Grooves and Soulful Sounds …
Mit Filmmusik und Library Music geht es los. Erster Höhepunkt ist der Soundtrack zur deutschen TV-Reihe „Aktenzeichen XY … Ungelöst“, der von Ernst-August Quelle komponiert wurde. Die erstmalige Veröffentlichung dieser legendären Aufnahmen haben wir dem engagierten Plattensammler und Macher des Münchner Labels Tramp Records zu verdanken. Ein Highlight, definitiv!
Ganz aktuelle Sounds kommen vom Atlantis Jazz Ensemble aus Kanada, das von Pierre Chretien geleitet wird. Er ist auch beim bestens bekannten Soul Jazz Orchestra und bei Cinephonic involviert. Auf dem neuen Album „Celestial Suite“ präsentiert das Atlantis Jazz Ensemble acht exquisite Jazz-Juwelen, die so richtig schön entspannt daher kommen. Ein Traum von einem Album, wunderschön!
Auch Misha Panfilov ist wieder mit einem neuen Album am Start, auf „Atlantico“ gibt es eine bunte stilistische Vielfalt, die von Spiritual Jazz über Jazz-Funk, Easy-Listening bis hin zu Psychedelic Rock reicht. Da kann es innerhalb eines Songs überraschende Richtungswechsel geben und am Ende klingt alles ganz neu und anders. Instrumentalmusik, von einigen textfreien Background Vocals mal abgesehen, die faszinierend, abwechslungsreich und ziemlich spannend klingt. Instrumentalmusik wird ja oft auch als Filmmusik eingesetzt und auch die sogenannte Library Music ist überwiegend instrumental. Der Begriff Library Music ist von den Production Music Libraries abgeleitet und diese Musik wird in der Fachsprache auch ziemlich nüchtern als „Produktionsmusik“ bezeichnet. Diese wird vorwiegend für Film, Fernsehen, Radio und andere Medien verwendet. Die Produktion dieser Musikstücke wurde von den jeweiligen Music Libraries beauftragt und sie besitzen daher alle Verwertungs- und Lizenzrechte. Eine Veröffentlichung dieser Musik auf dem „normalen“ Konsumenten-Markt war nicht vorgesehen. Doch in den letzten Jahren haben vor allem einige Komponisten und deren Musikstücke aus den 60er und frühen 70er Jahren Kultstatus erreicht und dies führte auch zu einer Wiederveröffentlichung von einigen legendären Alben. Heute lassen sich daher auch eine Reihe von Musikern von diesen Sounds inspirieren und sie bringen entsprechende Alben heraus. So hat das Label ATA Records mit seiner Hausband inzwischen die dritte Folge ihrers Library Music Archives veröffentlicht, das mir wieder richtig gut gefällt. Der amerikanische Produzent und Musiker Madlib hat auf seinem Label Madlib Invazion gleich eine ganze Serie mit Library Music Alben gestartet. Ein Jahr lang veröffentlicht er jeden Monat ein Album von unterschiedlichen Musikern mit deren musikalischen Stilübungen, die den Sounds der legendären Library Music Labels der 60er und 70er Jahre huldigen. Die fünfte Folge ist das Album „Crows Height“ von Dan Hastie und Terin Ector. Zwei Musiker, die ansonsten bei der Band Orgone aktiv sind. Ich finde dieses Album ziemlich klasse und auch die ganze Serie, die Madlib hier initiiert hat, ist hochinteressant.
Danach geht es mit Soul weiter. Einige neue 45er Singles, unter anderem von den Labels Penrose und Soul 4 Real. Dann kommt das von vielen schon mit Spannung erwartete neue Album der Black Pumas „Chronicles Of A Diamond“. Das zweite Album nach einem überraschend erfolgreichen Debüt-Album ist definitive keine leichte Sache. Die Black Pumas haben sich Zeit gelassen und ein solides Album gemacht, das auch wieder einige schöne Highlights enthält. Vor 15 Jahren ist das bisher einzige Album vom Trio Valore erschienen, das nun anlässlich dieses Jubiläums vom Label Record Kicks wiederveröffentlicht wurde. Solider Hammond-Orgel Funk, der immer noch ziemlich frisch und unverbraucht klingt. Ähnlich wie der unvergessene Charles Bradley ist Robert Finley, ein Sänger der erst in seinen 60ern sein erstes Album veröffentlicht hat. Auch er hat eine bemerkenswerte Soul-Stimme, die perfekt mit der spannenden Mischung aus Soul und Rhythm’n’Blues harmoniert, die er uns auf seinen Alben seither präsentiert. Die Produktion von Dan Auerbach trägt hierzu ebenfalls positiv bei. Der zunehmende Erfolg seiner letzten Alben ist daher erfreulich und ich bin sicher auch das neue Album „Black Bayou“ wird wieder sehr erfolgreich sein. Tolle Songs gibt es darauf genügend zu hören. In diesem Sinne, viel Spaß beim Anhören!

Library Music, Jazzy Grooves and Soulful Sounds …
It starts with film music and library music. The first highlight is the soundtrack to the German TV series „Aktenzeichen XY … Ungelöst“, which was composed by Ernst-August Quelle. We have the dedicated record collector and creator of the Munich label Tramp Records to thank for the first release of these legendary recordings. Definitely a highlight!
The latest sounds come from the Atlantis Jazz Ensemble from Canada, led by Pierre Chretien. He is also involved in the well-known Soul Jazz Orchestra and Cinephonic. On the new album „Celestial Suite“, the Atlantis Jazz Ensemble presents eight exquisite jazz jewels that come across as really relaxed. A dream of an album, wonderful!
Misha Panfilov is also back with a new album. „Atlantico“ features a colorful variety of styles, ranging from spiritual jazz to jazz-funk, easy listening and psychedelic rock. There can be surprising changes of direction within a song and in the end everything sounds completely new and different. Instrumental music, apart from some text-free background vocals, which sounds fascinating, varied and quite exciting. Instrumental music is often used as film music and so-called library music is also predominantly instrumental. The term library music is derived from production music libraries and this music is also referred to rather matter-of-factly as „production music“. It is mainly used for film, television, radio and other media. The production of these pieces of music was commissioned by the respective music libraries and they therefore own all exploitation and license rights. There were no plans to release this music on the „normal“ consumer market. However, in recent years, some composers and their music from the 60s and early 70s in particular have achieved cult status and this has also led to the re-release of some legendary albums. Today, a number of musicians are also inspired by these sounds and are releasing corresponding albums. The label ATA Records and its house band have now released the third installment of their Library Music Archive, which I really like again. The American producer and musician Madlib has launched a whole series of library music albums on his label Madlib Invazion. Every month for a year, he releases an album by different musicians with their musical style exercises that pay homage to the sounds of the legendary Library Music labels of the 60s and 70s. The fifth installment is the album „Crows Height“ by Dan Hastie and Terin Ector. Two musicians who are otherwise active in the band Orgone. I think this album is pretty great and the whole series that Madlib has initiated here is also very interesting.
Then it continues with soul. Some new 45 singles, including from the Penrose and Soul 4 Real labels. Then comes the Black Pumas‘ new album „Chronicles Of A Diamond“, which has been eagerly awaited by many. The second album after a surprisingly successful debut album is definitely no easy feat. The Black Pumas have taken their time and made a solid album that also contains some nice highlights. The only album by the trio Valore was released 15 years ago and has now been re-released by the Record Kicks label to mark this anniversary. Solid Hammond organ funk that still sounds pretty fresh and unspent. Similar to the unforgotten Charles Bradley is Robert Finley, a singer who only released his first album in his 60s. He too has a remarkable soul voice that harmonizes perfectly with the exciting mix of soul and rhythm’n’blues that he has presented to us on his albums since then. Dan Auerbach’s production also contributes positively to this. The increasing success of his last albums is therefore pleasing and I am sure that the new album „Black Bayou“ will also be very successful again. There are plenty of great songs to be heard on it. With this in mind, have fun listening!
