Summer of Soul!
Was ist die schönste Musik für den Sommer? Für mich ist das ein klarer Fall, es ist Soul! Daher ist es naheliegend mal wieder eine Sendung mit entspannt groovendem Soul als Schwerpunkt zu machen. Es gibt wieder einige großartige Neuveröffentlichungen vorzustellen.
Nach einigen aktuellen Soul Highlights und einer Reihe großartiger Klassiker kommen wir zum Album der Woche, es ist von Thee Marloes. Die Band kommt aus Surabaya in Indonesien. Eine Region, die bisher ein weißer Fleck auf der Soul-Landkarte war. Das Trio hat mit „Perak“ ein fabelhaftes Debütalbum vorgelegt. Ihr einzigartiger Sound vermischt Elemente ihrer lokalen Kultur und Musik mit Einflüssen aus Soul, Jazz und Pop. Die Texte wechseln zwischen indonesischer und englischer Sprache und werden von Sängerin Natassya Sianturi mit viel Gefühl und großer Intensität interpretiert. Ein großartiges Soul Album!
Aaron Frazer ist als Drummer und Co-Sänger der Indications bekannt geworden. Nun hat er sein zweites Solo-Album „Into The Blue“ vorgelegt. Hier beweist er einmal mehr, welch großartiges Talent er hat. Seine markante Falsett-Stimme, gepaart mit klassischem Songwriting und begleitet von einer außergewöhnlich vielseitigen musikalischen Mischung aus Soul, Psychedelia, cinematischen Sounds, Disco und Gospel ergibt ein äußerst erfrischendes und rundes Album. Wie viele klassische Soul-Alben ist dieses Album aus Liebeskummer entstanden und führt die Hörer auf eine Reise auf der Trauer, Einsamkeit und die Suche nach Heilung. Aaron Frazer ist es gelungen ein Album zu machen, das den Hörer trotz allem mit einem Gefühl des Optimismus zurück zu lassen. Wunderbar!
Die Macher des Labels Epsilon Records ist es gelungen die Orginalbänder eines bislang unveröffentlichten Albums von William A Keyes zu entdecken. Diese lagen seit Mitte der 70er Jahre in den Archiven von Eddie Caldwell, dem CEO von und Gründer von „Music Of The Sea Inc“. William Keyes hatte sich vor allem als Songschreiber einen Namen gemacht, insbesondere hat er viele Songs für Syl Johnson geschrieben. Zusammen mit befreundeten Musikern hatte er das wunderbare Souljazz Album „Lovin Cup“ eingespielt, das nun endlich veröffentlicht wurde.

Summer of Soul!
What is the best music for summer? For me, it’s a clear case, it’s soul! So it’s obvious to do another show with a focus on relaxed, grooving soul. There are some great new releases to present again.
After some current soul highlights and a series of great classics, we come to the album of the week, it’s by Thee Marloes. The band comes from Surabaya in Indonesia. A region that has been a blank spot on the soul map until now. The trio have released a fabulous debut album with „Perak“. Their unique sound mixes elements of their local culture and music with influences from soul, jazz and pop. The lyrics alternate between Indonesian and English and are interpreted by singer Natassya Sianturi with a lot of feeling and great intensity. A great soul album!
Aaron Frazer became known as the drummer and co-singer of the Indications. He has now released his second solo album „Into The Blue“. Here he proves once again what a great talent he has. His distinctive falsetto voice, paired with classic songwriting and accompanied by an exceptionally versatile musical mix of soul, psychedelia, cinematic sounds, disco and gospel, results in an extremely refreshing and well-rounded album. Like many classic soul albums, this album was born out of heartbreak and takes the listener on a journey of grief, loneliness and the search for healing. Aaron Frazer has succeeded in making an album that leaves the listener with a feeling of optimism despite everything. Wonderful! The makers of the Epsilon Records label have managed to discover the original tapes of a previously unreleased album by William A Keyes. These had been in the archives of Eddie Caldwell, the CEO of and founder of „Music Of The Sea Inc“ since the mid-70s. William Keyes had made a name for himself primarily as a songwriter, in particular he wrote many songs for Syl Johnson. Together with musician friends, he recorded the wonderful soul jazz album “Lovin Cup”, which has now finally been released.
