Wir begeben uns auf eine musikalische Weltreise, die wir in Trinidad beginnen. Danach geht es weiter nach Guadeloupe und zum ersten Highlight, der Wiederveröffentlichung des legendären Albums „Yelele“ von Kassav, anlässlich deren 40-jährigen Bandjubiläums. Nach einem kurzen Zwischenstop auf den Kap Verden geht es weiter nach Sao Tome und Principe. Hier treffen wir auf Africa Negra, die bedeutendste Band dieses kleinen Inselstaates. Das Label Disques Bongo Joe hat die zweite Folge der Africa Negra Antalogia veröffentlicht, die von Thomas Bignon aka DJ Tom B kuratiert wurde. Die erste Folge hat sich darauf konzentriert, eine Quintessenz der besten Songs aus den vergangenen Veröffentlichungen der Band zu präsentieren. Mit der zweiten Folge werden uns überwiegend bisher unveröffentlichte Aufnahmen präsentiert. Nur zwei Songs waren bisher auf Kassette veröffentlicht worden. Die Songs, die auf „Antalogia Vol.2“ erstmalig zu Gehör gebracht werden, sind schlichtweg sensationell gut. Ein großartiges Album, die Platte der Woche!
Danach geht es weiter auf den afrikanischen Kontinent und über Südafrika und Mali nach dem Senegal. Der von dort stammende Sänger Lass hat Ende April sein zweites Album „Passeport“ veröffentlicht, das ich mir außerordentlich gut gefällt. Lass hat auf seinem Album eine Reihe namhafter französischer Musiker versammelt, so zum Beispiel Bruno „Patchworks“ Hovart, bekannt von Voilaaa und zahlreichen anderen Projekten, sowie Florian Pelissier und die Bläser-Sektion seiner Band Cotonete.
Danach verlassen wir den afrikanischen Kontinent und reisen weiter in die Diaspora nach Berlin. Der nigerianische Sänger, Rapper und Songschreiber Rapturous Apollo Helios, kurz RAH, ist vor rund einem Jahrzehnt von Orile in Lagos (Nigeria) nach Berlin gezogen und hat sich dort mit seinen Swag Jam-Sessions einen Namen gemacht. Nun hat er sich mit der Berliner Band The Ruffcats zusammen getan und mit ihnen das Album „Orile To Berlin“ aufgenommen. Das Album ist beim Sonarkollektiv erschienen und ist astreiner Afrobeat-Sound der definitiv Klasse hat.
Ein weiteres Highlight kommt am Schluss, nämlich das neue Album von Bosq & Kaleta. Bei „No Be Today“ reichen die Einflüsse von Afrobeat bis hin zu lateinamerikanischen Sounds und diese Melange ist vor allem eins: außerordentlich tanzbar. Ein großartiges Album!

We embark on a musical journey around the world, starting in Trinidad. We then continue to Guadeloupe and the first highlight, the re-release of Kassav’s legendary album „Yelele“ to mark the band’s 40th anniversary. After a short stopover on Cape Verde, we continue on to Sao Tome and Principe. Here we meet Africa Negra, the most important band from this small island state. The Disques Bongo Joe label has released the second installment of the Africa Negra Antalogia, curated by Thomas Bignon aka DJ Tom B. The first installment focused on presenting a quintessence of the best songs from the band’s past releases. With the second installment, we are presented with mostly previously unreleased recordings. Only two songs had previously been released on cassette. The songs presented for the first time on „Antalogia Vol.2“ are simply sensationally good. A great album, the record of the week!
Then it’s on to the African continent and via South Africa and Mali to Senegal. Lass, a singer from there, released his second album „Passeport“ at the end of April, which I really like. Another highlight comes at the end, namely the new album by Bosq & Kaleta. On „No Be Today“, the influences range from Afrobeat to Latin American sounds and this melange is one thing above all: extraordinarily danceable. A great album!
