Different colours of Jazz!
Das neue Album von Jasmine Myra ist seit einigen Wochen einer meiner heimlichen Favoriten, insbesondere dann, wenn mir nach ruhigen Klängen und purer musikalischer Schönheit ist. Mit „Rising“ hat die Saxophonistin aus Leeds ein großartiges Werk geschaffen, dessen Klänge die Seele berühren. Das Album der Woche!
Auf das neue Album von Amanda Whiting war ich schon sehr gespannt. Nach zwei Alben und einer EP bei Jazzman Records ist sie nun bei First Word unter Vertrag. Musikalisch ist jedoch bei der großartigen Harfistin alles beim Alten geblieben und auch das neue Album „The Limination Of Her“ überzeugt wieder über die ganze Album-Länge.
Das polnische Jazz Quintet EABS (das steht für Electro-Acoustic Beat Sessions) kehrt mit dem neuen Album zu seinen Wurzeln zurück, was sich in der Konzentration auf die Geschichte des polnischen Jazz manifestiert: Die Band hat das 1973 aufgenommene Album „Purple Sun“ vom Tomasz Stankos Qintett komplett neu interpretiert. Das Album „Reflections Of Purple Sun“ ist eine musikalische Reise durch das Land von Motown, Jungle, Breakbeats, Swing und Free Jazz. Das klingt ziemlich abenteuerlich und ist vor allem sehr spannend!
Die Alben von Kamasi Washington sind meist epische Werke mit enormer Spielzeit von mehr als zwei Stunden. Dagegen ist sein aktuelles Album „Fearless Movement“ mit 86 Minuten Dauer ziemlich moderat ausgefallen. Musikalisch ist es jedoch nach wie vor außerordentlich virtuos und vielschichtig. Sehr gut!
Nach ruhigen Jazzklängen und virtuos-Wilden Exkursionen kommen wir nun zur dritten Klangfarbe des Jazz, den zum Tanzen animierenden Grooves. Jazz war schon immer auch Tanzmusik, auch wenn die Entwicklung manchmal in Richtungen ging, die dies vergessen ließen. Die Veranstaltungsreihe „We’ll Jazz You“ will dies ändern und Jazz als Tanzmusik wieder populär machen. Die ersten zwei Veranstaltungen im Schlachthaus Tübingen waren ein voller Erfolg. Das Konzept ist einfach und sehr gut: Es ist eine stimmige Kombination aus Konzert und DJ-Set. Am Freitag den 28. Juni startet die dritte Runde: Es spielen wieder Blue Corner Collective und Emanuela De Luca wird vor, zwischen und nach den Live-Sets der Band die passende Musik auflegen: Dancefloor Jazz und Artverwandtes wie Soul, Funk, Boogie und mehr. Ab 20 Uhr geht es los, ab 21 Uhr spielt das Blue Corner Collective. Ich freue mich schon sehr darauf! Zur Einstimmung auf das Event gibt es Musik vom Blue Corner Collectiv auch in dieser Sendung zu hören: Aufnahmen aus dem Studio-Konzert, das die Band 2019 im Rahmen der Sendung Pickup gegeben hat. Different colors of Jazz!
Jasmine Myra’s new album has been one of my secret favorites for a few weeks now, especially when I’m in the mood for calm sounds and pure musical beauty. With „Rising“, the saxophonist from Leeds has created a magnificent work whose sounds touch the soul. The album of the week!
I was really looking forward to Amanda Whiting’s new album. After two albums and an EP on Jazzman Records, she is now signed to First Word. Musically, however, everything has remained the same for the great harpist and the new album „The Limination Of Her“ is once again convincing over the entire length of the album.
The Polish jazz quintet EABS (which stands for Electro-Acoustic Beat Sessions) returns to its roots with the new album, which manifests itself in the focus on the history of Polish jazz: The band has completely reinterpreted the album „Purple Sun“ recorded in 1973 by Tomasz Stanko’s Qintet. The album „Reflections Of Purple Sun“ is a musical journey through the land of Motown, Jungle, Breakbeats, Swing and Free Jazz. It sounds quite adventurous and is above all very exciting!
Kamasi Washington’s albums are usually epic works with an enormous playing time of more than two hours. In contrast, his latest album „Fearless Movement“ is quite moderate at 86 minutes. Musically, however, it is still extraordinarily virtuosic and multi-layered. Very good!
After quiet jazz sounds and virtuoso wild excursions, we now come to the third sound color of jazz, the grooves that make you want to dance. Jazz has always been dance music, even if its development has sometimes gone in directions that have made us forget this. The „We’ll Jazz You“ series of events aims to change this and make jazz popular again as dance music. The first two events at Schlachthaus Tübingen were a complete success. The concept is simple and very good: it is a harmonious combination of concert and DJ set. The third round starts on Friday, June 28: Blue Corner Collective will be playing again and Emanuela De Luca will play the right music before, between and after the band’s live sets: Dancefloor jazz and related styles such as soul, funk, boogie and more. The party starts at 8 pm, with the Blue Corner Collective playing from 9 pm. I’m really looking forward to it!
