Willkommen zu einer Sendung mit zwei Stunden voller Tropical Soul & African Grooves.
Das Album der Woche ist „Belle Terre“ von Pat Kalla & Le Super Mojo. Der charismatische Sänger Pat Kalla wurde als Stimme des Voilaaa Soundsystems bekannt. Seit einigen Jahren ist er auch mit seiner Band Le Super Mojo aktiv. „Belle Terre“ ist bereits sein drittes Album mit dieser Band und es wurde wieder von Guts produziert. Einige GastsängerInnen sind ebenfalls mit dabei: Es gibt Gastauftritte von dem Folk-Duo Bonbon Vodou, Rebecca M’Boungou von der Band Kolinga und Olivia Victorin von der Band Dowdelin. Die musikalischen Zutaten sind wieder reichhaltig und wir können Elemente von Highlife, Rumba, Biguine, Funk und Afrobeat heraushören. Eine sonnige Mischung, die gut geeignet ist die Stimmung der HörerInnen aufzuhellen, selbst dann, wenn es um ernste Themen geht. Großartig, ein Album das in diesen Zeiten so sehr gut tut!
Schon letztes Jahr ist das Debütalbum von Lass erschienen, der wie Pat Kalla beim Voilaaa Soundsystem als Sänger bekannt wurde. Auf seinem Album „Bumayé“ präsentiert der aus Senegal stammende Sänger Songs mit vielfältigen musikalischen Einflüssen, sowohl aus seiner Heimat als auch aus der aktuellen französischen Club-Musikszene um den Produzenten und Musiker Bruno „Patchworks“ Hovart (Voilaaa, u.a.), der bei einigen Songs auch Co-Autor ist. Die Musik hat durchaus auch einen Pop-Appeal und es ist definitiv ein sehr schönes Album.
Neues gibt es auch vom Afro-Fusion Kollektiv Muito Kaballa aus Köln. Das neue Album „Like A River“ ist ein Konzeptalbum, mit weitreichenden musikalischen Einflüssen, die von Afrofunk, Gnawa, Jazz und Rumba bis hin zu elektronischen Sounds reichen. Sehr interessant.
Aus Sao Paulo kommen Bixiga 70 und „Vapor“ ist ihr erstes Album nach 5 Jahren. Durch Covid 19 hatte die Band eine Zwangspause und es gab auch einige Umbesetzungen. Die musikalische Synthese aus brasilianischen und afrikanischen Elementen ist nach wie vor spannend und funktioniert auf dem neuen Album wieder bestens.
Im zweiten Teil gibt es einige spannende Wiederveröffentlichungen. Den Auftakt machen The Mighty Cavaliers aus Kenya und über diese Band war hierzulande bislang wenig bekannt. Die Wiederentdeckung des Albums „Mapendo“ lohnt sich, denn die Musik ist großartig!
Danach geht es mit dem aus Mali stammenden Leon Keita weiter. Von ihm ist bei Analog Africa eine Compilation mit sechs seiner besten Songs erschienen. Das Album ist ein musikalisches Juwel, mit hypnotischen Gitarren, schweren Bass-Riffs, psychedelischen Orgellinien und funkigen Bläsern. Das passt für mich perfekt und es macht Sinn, dass dieses großartige Album in der Analog Africa Dance Edition – Reihe erschienen ist. Diese Musik geht in die Beine!
Zum Schluss geht es nach Benin zu der Band Les Sympathics De Porto-Novo Benin. Deren zweites Album (Vol.2) ist nun bei Acid Jazz Records in der Reihe mit Reissues vom Albarika Store – Label erschienen. Viel Spaß beim Anhören!

Welcome to a show with two hours of Tropical Soul & African Grooves.
The album of the week is „Belle Terre“ by Pat Kalla & Le Super Mojo. Charismatic singer Pat Kalla became known as the voice of Voilaaa Soundsystem. For several years he has also been active with his band Le Super Mojo. „Belle Terre“ is already his third album with this band and it was again produced by Guts. Some guest vocalists are also included: there are guest appearances by the folk duo Bonbon Vodou, Rebecca M’Boungou from the band Kolinga and Olivia Victorin from the band Dowdelin. The musical ingredients are again rich and we can hear elements of highlife, rumba, biguine, funk and Afrobeat. A sunny mixture that is well suited to lighten the mood of the listener, even when it comes to serious issues. Great, an album that does so much good in these times!
The debut album of Lass was released already last year. Lass, who, like Pat Kalla, became known as a singer at Voilaaa Soundsystem. On his album „Bumayé“ the singer from Senegal presents songs with diverse musical influences, both from his homeland and from the current French club music scene around the producer and musician Bruno „Patchworks“ Hovart (Voilaaa, among others), who is also co-writer on some songs. The music definitely has a pop appeal as well and it’s definitely a very nice album.
There is also news from the Afro-Fusion collective Muito Kaballa from Cologne. The new album „Like A River“ is a concept album, with wide musical influences ranging from Afrofunk, Gnawa, Jazz and Rumba to electronic sounds. Very interesting.
From Sao Paulo come Bixiga 70 and „Vapor“ is their first album after 5 years. Due to Covid 19 the band had a forced break and there were also some changes of the line-up. The musical synthesis of Brazilian and African elements is still exciting and works well again on the new album.
In the second part there are some exciting re-releases. The Mighty Cavaliers from Kenya make the start and little was known about this band in this country until now. The rediscovery of the album „Mapendo“ is worthwhile, because the music is great!
Then it continues with Leon Keita from Mali. A compilation of six of his best songs has been released by Analog Africa. The album is a musical gem, with hypnotic guitars, heavy bass riffs, psychedelic organ lines and funky horns. It’s a perfect fit for me, and it makes sense that this great album was released in the Analog Africa Dance Edition – series. This music gets into your legs!
Finally we go to Benin to the band Les Sympathics De Porto-Novo Benin. Their second album (Vol.2) is now released by Acid Jazz Records in the series with reissues from the Albarika Store label. Have fun listening!
