A Global Soul Adventure!
Wir begeben uns auf eine abenteurliche Reise durch die klanglichen Welten des Global Soul. Es gibt einiges Neues vorzustellen, es sind eine Reihe spannender Alben dabei und noch einige neue Songs bzw. Singles dazu. So geht es dann auch los, bis wir dann zum ersten neuen Album von VuVuVu kommen. „The Remixes“ ist ein digitales Album mit Reworks von eingen Songs aus dem Debütalbum von VuVuVu. Die auf dem Album enthaltenen Versionen sind ziemlich interessant und können den Orginal-Songs von VuVuVu einige neue Aspekte abgewinnen. Das Album gibt es übrigens auf der Webseite des Labels Wax Thematique zum kostenlosen Download.
Zwei Bandmitglieder von VuVuVu sind auch bei der Band Sababa 5 aktiv. Die haben gerade das neue Album „Kokoro“ veröffentlicht, das sie zusammen mit der japanischen Sängerin Yurika Hanashima aufgenommen haben. Darauf sind auch die Songs enthalten, welche die Band 2019 und 2020 als 7″ Singles veröffentlicht hatte. Sababa 5 erschaffen im Zusammenspiel mit Sängerin Yurika einen magischen Sound, der psychedelische Sounds aus dem Nahen Osten mit Soul, Funk, Disco und japanischem Folk und Pop verschmilzt. Dieser Magie kann man sich nur schwer entziehen und ich bin von „Kokoro“ absolut begeistert. Es ist das Album der Woche!
Die brasilianische Band Os Barbapapas hatte am 5. Juli in Reutlingen im Rahmen der tollen Veranstaltungsreihe „Encore – Kunst, Musik und Alchemie“ gespielt und das Konzert war fantastisch. Der Bandsound wird durch eine Glasharfe geprägt, die von dem Musiker Tomas Gleiser gespielt und auch gebaut wurde. Er hat zudem einige elektronische Effektgeräte und Wah-Wah-Pedale angeschlossen, mit denen er den Sound der Glasharfe manipuliert und verfremdet. Im Zusammenspiel mit den akzentuierten Gitarren-Licks von Rubens da Selva und den hypnotischen Rhythmen von Barbara Mucciollo und Fernando Lima ergibt dies einen einzigartigen Sound. Auf dem Album „Enigma“ kommt dies voll zur Geltung und ich finde es wunderbar. Das Album ist bereits im November 2023 erschienen.
Das französische Duo Bonbon Vodou hat ebenfalls einen außergewöhnlichen Sound kreiert, der nur schwer einordenbar ist. Auf ihrer neuen EP „Afrodiziak“ präsentieren sie eine wirklich coole Kombination aus kreolischen Roots, Folk und zeitgenössischem Club-Sounds, die mich sofort begeistert hat.
Noch einen Schritt weiter in Richtung elektronischer Clubsounds geht es bei Yemanjo. Die ist ein Projekt des Produzenten und Multi-Instrumentalisten Ben Harris. In den Songs seines Albums „La Misma Fuente“ hören wir musikalische Einflüsse aus aller Welt, insbesondere aus Lateinamerika und Afrika. Sehr schön.
Ein weiterer Höhepunkt kommt fast zum Schluss der Sendung: Die „Estrellas Remixes“. Vier Remixe von Guts Album „Estrellas“, das 2023 erschienen ist, sind nun als Doppel-12″ erschienen. Die Songs erscheinen hier in einem zwingend tanzbaren Club-Sound der richtig Laune macht. Großartig!

A Global Soul Adventure!
We embark on an adventurous journey through the sonic worlds of global soul. There are some new things to introduce, a number of exciting albums and a few new songs and singles. And so it goes until we come to VuVuVu’s first new album. “The Remixes” is a digital album with reworks of some songs from VuVuVu’s debut album. The versions contained on the album are quite interesting and can add some new aspects to the original songs by VuVuVu. The album is available for free download on the website of the label Wax Thematique.
Two of VuVuVu’s band members are also active in the band Sababa 5. They have just released the new album “Kokoro”, which they recorded together with Japanese singer Yurika Hanashima. It also contains the songs that the band released as 7″ singles in 2019 and 2020. Together with singer Yurika, Sababa 5 create a magical sound that fuses psychedelic sounds from the Middle East with soul, funk, disco and Japanese folk and pop. It’s hard to escape this magic and I’m absolutely thrilled with “Kokoro”. It’s the album of the week!
The Brazilian band Os Barbapapas played in Reutlingen on July 5 as part of the great event series “Encore – Art, Music and Alchemy” and the concert was fantastic. The band’s sound is characterized by a glass harp, which was played and built by musician Tomas Gleiser. He has also connected several electronic effect devices and wah-wah pedals, which he uses to manipulate and alienate the sound of the glass harp. In combination with the accentuated guitar licks of Rubens da Selva and the hypnotic rhythms of Barbara Mucciollo and Fernando Lima, this results in a unique sound. This comes into its own on the album “Enigma” and I think it’s wonderful. The album was released in November 2023.
The French duo Bonbon Vodou has also created an extraordinary sound that is difficult to categorize. On their new EP “Afrodiziak”, they present a really cool combination of Creole roots, folk and contemporary club sounds that I immediately loved.
Yemanjo goes one step further in the direction of electronic club sounds. This is a project by producer and multi-instrumentalist Ben Harris. In the songs on his album “La Misma Fuente”, we hear musical influences from all over the world, especially from Latin America and Africa. Very nice.
Another highlight comes almost at the end of the show: The “Estrellas Remixes”. Four remixes from Gut’s album “Estrellas”, which was released in 2023, have now been released as a double 12″. The songs appear here in a compellingly danceable club sound that really gets you in the mood. Great!
